Last season Seton Hall ranked exactly 300th nationally in FT shooting (68.4%). This season they sit at 46th in the nation (75.8%).

To go from 300th to a top 50 team in the country with largely the same group of players is a testament to the work ethic and focus of these guys.

Take yesterday for example: 14-16 from the line and we needed every single one of them. Plenty of past Seton Hall teams probably let that game get away from them.

We have four players back from last year's team -- not including walk-ons. Those players each shot above the team average last season.

Three of the four highest volume FT shooters from a year ago are no longer here and none of those three players shot better than 66%.

The returning players from last season with their FT numbers from 2022-23

D. Davis - 50-58 .862
Dawes - 62-75 .827
Sanders 4-5 .800
Richmond - 70-101 .693

Total: 186-239 .778

Non-returning players with their FT numbers from 2022-23

Harris 23-31 .742
Jackson 42-60 .700
T. Davis 47-68 .691
Ndefo 65-99 .657
Samuels 84-130 .646
Odukale 51-99 .515

Total: 312-487 .641

Guys have been amazing. EHE was 100% from the FT line until yesterday. He's excellent from the stripe.

If you recall, last year when we were struggling from the line, Sha said no one practices FT shooting more than us. The good news is it is paying off this year, but it certainly helps that our worst FT shooters from last year are not on team anymore.

Our approach is to shoot many more 2 pt baskets vs 3's and go to the tin and take high % shots. We want to draw fouls. Shooting FTs at a high percentage is key to our being able to win games this year. I am also noticing when an opponent is in foul trouble, this year we go right at him. In the past, we didn't always take advantage of that. Nice job by Sha to get our players to play that way.

Femi (51.5% FT last year), Samuel (64.6%) and KC (65.7%) moving on has helped this team's FT shooting significantly and most of our new players shoot a higher % than they did. Hope it continues and gets better. Kadary has also improved (69.3% last year to 77.1% this year). We are gonna need to hit some big ones going forward to secure some wins.

Addae Wusu (67.5% FT this year), Bediako (67.6%) and Coleman (62.5%) are guys that will get to the line for us this year that need to improve. If they can get those averages above 70% which is doable, it will help us quite a bit.

Better shooters taking them. Our rate is also less.

This year we’re just 201st in FTA:FGA. Last year we were 17th. We’re also a much better 2PT% team this year which is good as you know you want 1 shot to get 2 points not 2.
