Both parties have failed miserably on this issue for various reasons.
Whether we like Trump or not, if he can get meaningful legislation through this year that addresses securing the borders, deporting criminals, developing a pathway to citizenship, establishing annual immigration quotas and destroying the cartels, we should all celebrate.
Beyond getting it passed, implementation will be tricky and ongoing and I hope future administrations stay the course.
I'm more optimistic about Trump getting something done than Biden. Biden did eventually try, but if we're being honest, that was only to win an election.
My hope is dampened by the fear that there is no movement from the left on the border enforcement and no movement on the right for a path towards citizenship for those who have been here for years... or we will just keep kicking the can down the road to keep it a hot political issue.
