THE GAME

Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, November 29 when it makes the short trip to Princeton, N.J. to take on the Tigers. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

LAST GAME
Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella collected the 500th victory of his remarkable career with a 68-57 win over East Carolina in the finale of the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship on Nov. 22.

Graduate student Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) erupted for a game-high 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting and A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill.) had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Pirates used a 21-2 run spanning the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second to take the lead and never trailed again. The game was only the second meeting between Seton Hall and East Carolina, two of three Division I teams with "Pirates" as a mascot.

AGAINST PRINCETON
Seton Hall and Princeton will lock up for the 22nd time in history on Wednesday. The Pirates own a 13-8 all-time series lead, but the Tigers have won four of the last six contests. The Hall has seen success in recent years in Jadwin Gym having won the last two road games in the series.

SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton is coming off another strong season, which featured a 24-6 final record and a 12-2 mark in Ivy League play. The Tigers won the conference tournament, earning an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Riding a 15-game win streak into the NCAAs, Princeton upset seventh-seeded NC State in the opening round before ending their season with a seven-point loss to second-seeded Utah.

Princeton was picked to finish first among the eight teams of the Ivy League according to the 2023-24 Coaches Preseason Poll. The Tigers return Kaitlyn Chen, Ivy Player of the Year, and Ellie Mitchell, Ivy Defensive Player of the Year, along with Madison St. Rose, Ivy Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 campaign. Chen was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Watch List.

Princeton has been highly impressive so far this season and enters Wednesday's contest with a 4-2 record. Half of its opponents have been nationally ranked this season. The Tigers fell by only three points at No. 3 UCLA on Nov. 17 and lost by only nine points against No. 19 Indiana on Saturday. Among its impressive victories is a 77-63 win over No. 20 Oklahoma on Thanksgiving.

St. Rose and Chen are both currently averaging 17 points per game. Mitchell is pulling down a team-best 12.7 rebounds per contest.

Pirates Drop Double-Overtime Classic at Princeton, 75-71​

Micah Gray had a game-high 24 points, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to force overtime.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.) banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team was outlasted by No. 25 Princeton, 75-71, in double-overtime.

Trailing 59-56 with one second left, Gray banked in a shot in front of her bench to force extra basketball. With under a minute remaining in the second overtime, Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) hit a pair of free-throws to give The Hall a 71-70 lead. The Tigers' Skye Belker hit a jumper with only 37 seconds left to put Princeton back ahead, and then Princeton iced the game on the free-throw line.

The Hall bested the strong-rebounding Tigers, 43-to-36, but it committed a season-high 28 turnovers and was just 10-for-20 from the free-throw line.

Gray was brilliant tonight, going for a game-high 24 points on the strength of 7-for-13 shooting from three-point range. She also had a season-high six rebounds. Baines had a tough night shooting the ball, but still collected her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.

THE STORY:
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill.)
hit a tough turnaround with 5:57 left in the first quarter to give The Hall an 8-2 lead, but Princeton responded with a 15-2 run to grab a 17-10 advantage. Baines hit a jumper at the first quarter buzzer to cut The Hall's deficit to five points after the first 10 minutes.

The Hall started off the second quarter on fire from the field, and a three-pointer by Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) capped a 10-2 Pirates run which gave them the lead back, 20-19, with 6:53 left before halftime. A free-throw by Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.) sent the teams into the locker room tied at 29. Hagans had eight points on 3-for-3 shooting from the field in the second quarter alone. Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor.

Trailing 40-32, The Hall went on a 10-2 run, and a pair of free-throws by Baines tied the score at 42 with 2:38 left in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was defense-dominated as both teams scored only four points over the first 8:00. The Hall trailed 59-54 with only 17 seconds remaining, but a layup by Baines with 13 seconds to go, and a Princeton turnover with 11 seconds left, set up Gray's heroics at the buzzer.

After a dead-locked first overtime, The Hall took a one-point lead with 53 seconds left on a pair of Baines free-throws, but Princeton scored the last five points of the game to edge the Pirates, 75-71.

THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 26-for-63 (41.3%) from the floor for the game, while Princeton was 24-for-56 (42.9%). The Hall was 9-for-16 (56.3%) from three-point range, while the Tigers were 6-for-22 (27.3%).
  • Gray had a game-high 24 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the floor, including 7-for-13 from three-point range. She also had a season-high six rebounds.
  • The Hall out-rebounded Princeton, 43-to-36, which included a 16-to-12 edge on the offensive glass and a 12-to-6 advantage in second-chance points.
  • Baines had a double-double with 12 points and season-high 11 rebounds.
  • Seton Hall was 10-for-20 (50.0%) from the free-throw line, while Princeton was 21-for-30 (70.0%).
  • Senior Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a game-high seven assists to go with six rebounds and four steals.
  • Seton Hall forced 23 turnovers, while the Tigers forced 28.
THE NOTES:
  • Seton Hall drops to 4-3 on the young season, while Princeton improves to 5-2.
  • The Hall is now 13-9 all-time against the Tigers.
  • Seton Hall has shot better than .400 from the field in all seven of its games so far this season.
  • Gray reached at least 20 points for the third time this season and the 13th time in her career.
  • Baines has also now scored in double-figures 27 times in her career and in four straight games.
  • The Hall was 9-for-16 from three-point range tonight. The .563 percentage is a season-high.
  • Seton Hall's 28 turnovers tonight are a season-high.
  • This was The Hall's first double-overtime game since falling to Creighton, 97-91, on Feb. 20, 2022.
  • Wright has collected at least six assists in five straight games.

Heartbreaking loss for the ladies. Seems their foul shots weren’t falling tonight. Unlike the guys, the ladies usually hit their free throws at a pretty good clip.
