LAST GAME

had a game-high 22 points and Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) collected a double-double, but The Hall fell in its final road contest of the regular season, 76-64, at Butler on Friday.

The Pirates were playing a game without Nancy Lieberman National Point Guard of the Year candidate Lauren Park-Lane for the first time since falling to Toledo in the WNIT on March 21, 2019. Park-Lane missed tonight's contest with flu-like symptoms.

The Pirates twice cut their deficit to just one point in the fourth quarter, but Butler closed the game with an 11-0 run to seal The Hall's fate.

Cooks had 22 points, including Seton Hall's first 10 of the fourth quarter, on 8-for-14 shooting to go with four rebounds and four assists. Baines had exactly 19 points and 10 rebounds for a second straight game. Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) was a third Pirate to reach double-figures in scoring. She had 12 points and five assists.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Wildcats: Villanova leads, 48-25
Last Season:
#15 Villanova 99, Seton Hall 65 (F) – February 11, 2023 (Finneran Pavilion)

EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST VILLANOVA
The Pirates got 20-point games from both Sidney Cooks and Lauren Park-Lane, but fell at No. 15 Villanova, 99-65, on Feb. 11.

The Pirates had a hard time finding an answer for the nation's leading scorer, Villanova's Maddy Siegrist. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year set a new BIG EAST single-game record with 50 points, including eight points in a game-changing 19-3 Villanova run late in the second quarter.

Cooks finished with a team-high 21 points on the strength of 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range. Park-Lane had 20 points to go with six assists, five rebounds, two steals and only one turnover.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA
This year, the Wildcats were picked to finish third in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the Preseason coaches' poll. To no one's surprise, Maddie Siegrist, the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year and Third Team All-America was named the Preseason Player of the Year. All-Rookie Team selection Lucy Olsen also returned as did regulars Brooke Mullin and Bella Runyan.

Villanova has been one of the top teams in the country this year. The Wildcats enter Monday's contest ranked No. 15 in the country with a 25-5 overall record and an impressive 16-3 mark in BIG EAST Play. Siegrist leads the country with a 28.9 points per game average, while pulling down 9.2 rebounds per contest. Villanova's only three loses in BIG EAST play came against Creighton in early December and twice to Connecticut. They've won their last two games, including a 67-50 victory over Providence on Friday.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action next weekend when it begins postseason play at the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament. The six-seeded Pirates will face 11-seeded Xavier in the first round on Friday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. in Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. Conn. The contest will be televised on SNY and available for FloHoops subscribers. Mike Federico and Spencer Gonzalez will describe the action for WSOU FM.

Is Park- Lane playing tonight if not we are in BIG trouble ,with her 100% we have a punchers chance .

The late season has not gone too well for this team. Very bad luck not having Park-Lane for the last game. They just don’t have enough depth to get by. In addition other teams in the conference are playing well. Marquette and SJU both upset UConn. DePaul was one late game possession from beating UConn too.

So, they need a good effort tonight against Villanova. SHU tends to play very well at the BigEast Tournament. They need to finish strong and get into the WNIT. The coaching staff has to upgrade the overall talent. I believe they can do that, but the drop off after the 2nd or 3rd player must not be as severe as it currently.

Down 38-23 at the half. Park-Lane with a rough first half with 2 points(1-11). Maybe she'll have a good second half? That's a terrific crowd at Walsh. Place looks great. No reason it can't be a better program.

Down 64.37 with 1 minute left in 3Q.

Park Lane constantly gets frustrated when they double her and plug up the middle. Baines is the only pleasant surprise. Disappointing season considering the Pirates play 5 seniors, who really came together last year.

Bozella just can't get them to the next level.

So far, the parts don't add up to a cohesive group. Their defense inside gets overrun. The difference I see with Park-Lane this season is she doesn't make the other team pay when they give her the slightest bit of room. She doesn't shoot with conviction. When the outside shot doesn't go in, she starts to overthink her drives to the rim. Lots of unforced turnovers too. That's just not the player she is. In fairness she has a ton of pressure on her plate with this roster. Maybe worn out at this time of the season. Hopefully, the entire team plays better at the BigEast Tournament.

Like to see the Women’s team finish on a strong note. A very winnable first game at The BigEast Tournament. If they get by that they can try to make some noise. They can certainly score, but have to stay focused on defense. I think LPL and Cooks will rise to the occasion.. Baiines playing well offensively too.. The most important thing is to reduce the amount made field goals by their opponents.. That has been their biggest problem down the stretch. The coaches can’t do it for them. Play well enough to get a home game in the WNIT.
