NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Seton Hall men's basketball will tip off 2025 on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when the Pirates host DePaul for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Peacock.
  • The Pirates are 25-10 all-time against the Blue Demons and they've won nine of the last 11 meetings.
  • The Pirates are 89-66 (.574) all-time against BIG EAST competition at Prudential Center.
  • Seton Hall is in the midst of its longest losing skid since dropping six consecutive games from 2/3 to 2/21 during the 2014-15 season.
  • Head coach Shaheen Holloway is 59-27 (.686) from January to March the last four full seasons, including a 22-11 mark in the month of January.
  • After struggling from the free-throw line through the first month of the season, Seton Hall has bounced back in its last five games shooting 70 percent (73-of-104) from the stripe.
  • The Hall ranks fourth in the BIG EAST shooting 77 percent from the line in conference games.
  • Isaiah Coleman has scored in double-figures in six of his last seven games including back-to-back 20-point performances at Villanova and against Georgetown.
  • He's the first Pirate to have consecutive 20-point games this season and he's the first Pirate since Al-Amir Dawes finished last season with three straight 20-point performances.
  • Coleman continues to show growth coming off an All-BIG EAST Freshman Team campaign last season as he dropped a career-high 25 points with nine rebounds in the Pirates' 61-60 loss to Georgetown.
  • Over the last five games, Coleman is averaging 19.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.
  • Coleman ranks second in the BIG EAST averaging 22.0 points per game in three conference games..
  • Dylan Addae-Wusu and Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner share the lead among active players with 81 career BIG EAST games played.
  • Seton Hall has held eight opponents under 65 points this season.
  • The Pirates boast one of the top defenses in Div. I, ranking 54th in KenPom defensive efficiency and 25th in scoring defense (63.9 ppg).
  • Seton Hall ranks eighth in Div. I in non-steal turnover percentage by KenPom, a metric that measures turnovers such as traveling, offensive fouls and shot clock violations.
  • After grabbing a season-high 22 offensive rebounds against the Hoyas, Seton Hall now ranks second in the BIG EAST averaging 12.1 offensive rebounds per game.
  • The Pirates rank third in the BIG EAST in bench points averaging 23.0 points per contest.
  • The Pirates are 4-1 on the season when Chaunce Jenkins is their leading scorer.
  • Jenkins has scored in double-figures in six of Seton Hall's 12 games this season and he went over 1,000 career points on Nov. 13 against Hofstra.

Well, we all wanted bench points last season and now we got them.
Sone of the starters should be bench players .

I'm hoping we are bottoming out and this season is a one off. Many tickets on Stubhub for $2. Weather, DePaul and the SHU performance to date make this a tough sell. I'm still optimistic about the SHU Program with or without the current staff. Both ways are possible. It's not hopeless, but they need to adjust their approach.

Over under for actual number butts in seats tonight? Not the 8k figure that will be announced, I’m thinking maybe 2500 folks actually show up tonight.

I'd say 4500 in the arena. Our hardcore fans are very loyal. I could be wrong.
If the game was a little later I would have made it and done a little pregaming at the Whiskey.

Hate to say it but I'd take the under on that # given the state of the team, a truly unsexy opponent and wind chills in the low teens.

If we don't win this one it will be very sad. Home game vs DePaul. Just our 2nd game in 17 days while DePaul is playing its 3rd game in 7 days, coming off a 44-point road loss to Nova on Saturday. With all this practice time we have to see some improvement, right?

I would normally drive up from Princeton but my wife is in bed with a bad cold. Have to watch on Peacock! Go Pirates!
