SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) had a game-high 18 points and freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) collected her first career double-double as the Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated Quinnipiac, 57-40, in the opening round of the WBIT on Thursday.
The Hall outscored the Bobcats, 17-to-2, in a 9:16 stretch of the opening quarter to take the lead, and never looked back. The Pirates dominated Quinnipiac on the boards, 46-to-33, and held the Bobcats to under 30 percent shooting for the game.
Catalon had a game-high 18 points to go with five rebounds and two steals. She also hit a pair of dagger three-pointers in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Eads tallied 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
THE STORY:
Quinnipiac hit a three-pointer to start the game, but the Pirates answered with vengeance, going on a 17-2 run over the next 9:16 to take a commanding 17-5 lead. The Hall forced six turnovers in the first 10 minutes and held Quinnipiac to just 2-for-14 shooting (.143) from the floor.
The Bobcats closed the first half with a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to 28-22 at the break. The Hall shot 41 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, but was only 1-for-9 from three-point range. Meanwhile, Quinnipiac hit four three-pointers to keep them in the game.
Seton Hall saw its lead trimmed to 28-24 with 7:38 left in the third quarter, but the Pirates answered with a 13-4 run, highlighted by an acrobatic bucket and the foul by Catalon, to boost its advantage back to 41-28.
The Pirates opened the fourth quarter with the first six points and a layup by Eads gave them their largest lead of the game, 47-30, with 7:44 left in the game. The Bobcats cut their deficit to 13 points, but couldn't get closer.

- Seton Hall was 26-for-66 (39.4%) from the floor for the game, while Quinnipiac was 17-for-57 (29.8%). The Hall was 3-for-21 (14.3%) from three-point range, while the Bobcats were 4-for-21 (19.0%).
- Catalon had 18 points, five rebounds and two steals.
- The Hall out-rebounded Quinnipiac, 46-to-33, which included a 16-to-10 edge on the offensive glass and a 12-to-9 advantage in second-chance points.
- Eads tallied her first career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
