LAST GAME
Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had a team-high 14 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at No. 6 Connecticut, 96-36, in Gampel Pavilion on Sunday

Even for a team that has become accustomed to winning, emotions were high for Connecticut as Paige Bueckers surpassed 2,000 career points and Aubrey Griffin made her return from a torn ACL after missing well over a year. Add in the fact that the Huskies hadn't played at Gampel Pavilion since Dec. 3, and it was the perfect storm against the Pirates.

Eads had 14 points with four rebounds and four steals. Junior Messiah Hunter (Hopewell, Va.) matched her career-high with seven points to go with three rebounds. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had eight points and a team-best six rebounds.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Red Storm: St. John's leads, 50-39
2023-24 Meetings:
St. John's 68, Seton Hall 57 (F) – Feb. 13, 2024 (Carnesecca Arena)
Seton Hal 74, St. John's 66 in OT (F) – Jan. 22, 2024 (Walsh Gymnasium)

AGAINST ST. JOHN'S
Seton Hall and St. John's will renew their lengthy BIG EAST rivalry when the Red Storm visit Walsh Gym on Saturday. St. John's owns a 50-39 all-time series lead, but the Pirates have enjoyed wins in six of the last eight games. Last season, the teams split the home-and-home series. Seton Hall won in overtime in Walsh Gym on Jan. 22.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
St. John's looks to replace leading scorers Unique Drake and Jillian Archer, who helped lead the Red Storm to an 18-15 overall record in 2023-24 and an 11-8 mark in BIG EAST play. Ber'Nyah Mayo returns after finishing last season averaging 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 33 games. The Red Storm welcome four transfers, including Miami transfer Lashae Dwyer who played 35 games for the Hurricanes. St. John's earned one of the BIG EAST's four bids to the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) where they made it to the second round last season.

This season, St. John's is picked to finish fourth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference. Mayo was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

St. John's finished the non-conference portion of its schedule with an impressive 10-1 record, but has faced a tough go since entering BIG EAST play. The Red Storm enter Saturday's contest with a 1-7 record in conference play with their lone victory coming in Cincinnati against Xavier. Notable non-conference victories came against high-majors Penn State and Wake Forest. Dwyer currently leads the Red Storm with 13.5 points per game.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 when it hosts Butler for a BIG EAST clash. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available to FloCollege subscribers. 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net will also carry the game.

How nice would that be. They could probably get more than the mens games right now. Even if only 3-4k
Come on,

I go to most of the Womens games. Walsh crowd was nice yesterday, about 75% occupied, but there were just over 1100 people. Even at the Uconn game, if Walsh was back to its old sizing of 3200, it would not be full.

Sorry? I was going off the fact someone said sellout which I thought was about 2300 in it's current renovation. Figuring there are probably more people if the game was hyped up that would go, especially for a team that's playing well. Some of us haven't lost all optimism 🤷

All the games I've been to at Walsh it seems full. And there definitely have been Connecticut games that I've wanted to go to and it's been sold out.

You’re off by 700 … and it was funny to see a tweet referring to a sellout and see an attached pic showing a lot of empty seats
