LAST GAME
Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had a team-high 14 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at No. 6 Connecticut, 96-36, in Gampel Pavilion on Sunday

Even for a team that has become accustomed to winning, emotions were high for Connecticut as Paige Bueckers surpassed 2,000 career points and Aubrey Griffin made her return from a torn ACL after missing well over a year. Add in the fact that the Huskies hadn't played at Gampel Pavilion since Dec. 3, and it was the perfect storm against the Pirates.

Eads had 14 points with four rebounds and four steals. Junior Messiah Hunter (Hopewell, Va.) matched her career-high with seven points to go with three rebounds. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had eight points and a team-best six rebounds.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Red Storm: St. John's leads, 50-39
2023-24 Meetings:
St. John's 68, Seton Hall 57 (F) – Feb. 13, 2024 (Carnesecca Arena)
Seton Hal 74, St. John's 66 in OT (F) – Jan. 22, 2024 (Walsh Gymnasium)

AGAINST ST. JOHN'S
Seton Hall and St. John's will renew their lengthy BIG EAST rivalry when the Red Storm visit Walsh Gym on Saturday. St. John's owns a 50-39 all-time series lead, but the Pirates have enjoyed wins in six of the last eight games. Last season, the teams split the home-and-home series. Seton Hall won in overtime in Walsh Gym on Jan. 22.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
St. John's looks to replace leading scorers Unique Drake and Jillian Archer, who helped lead the Red Storm to an 18-15 overall record in 2023-24 and an 11-8 mark in BIG EAST play. Ber'Nyah Mayo returns after finishing last season averaging 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 33 games. The Red Storm welcome four transfers, including Miami transfer Lashae Dwyer who played 35 games for the Hurricanes. St. John's earned one of the BIG EAST's four bids to the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) where they made it to the second round last season.

This season, St. John's is picked to finish fourth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference. Mayo was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

St. John's finished the non-conference portion of its schedule with an impressive 10-1 record, but has faced a tough go since entering BIG EAST play. The Red Storm enter Saturday's contest with a 1-7 record in conference play with their lone victory coming in Cincinnati against Xavier. Notable non-conference victories came against high-majors Penn State and Wake Forest. Dwyer currently leads the Red Storm with 13.5 points per game.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 when it hosts Butler for a BIG EAST clash. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available to FloCollege subscribers. 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net will also carry the game.

Great to get some positive news in the win against SJU it seems like it was a long time coming. Really good 4th quarter to beat SJU .

How nice would that be. They could probably get more than the mens games right now. Even if only 3-4k
Come on,

I go to most of the Womens games. Walsh crowd was nice yesterday, about 75% occupied, but there were just over 1100 people. Even at the Uconn game, if Walsh was back to its old sizing of 3200, it would not be full.

Sorry? I was going off the fact someone said sellout which I thought was about 2300 in it's current renovation. Figuring there are probably more people if the game was hyped up that would go, especially for a team that's playing well. Some of us haven't lost all optimism 🤷

All the games I've been to at Walsh it seems full. And there definitely have been Connecticut games that I've wanted to go to and it's been sold out.

You’re off by 700 … and it was funny to see a tweet referring to a sellout and see an attached pic showing a lot of empty seats

They have to compile wins and beat Creighton at least once.
Friday's ESPN Bracketology update had us below the next four out.

As SPK noted above, NET is 75 and we are 0-3 Q1 (with an average margin of minus-40).

We are 3-5 in Q1 & 2 and 11-0 in Q3 & 4 (9-0 in Q4). There are only two Big East teams in the NET top fifty while five of 11 are above 100. Big East Women's Basketball is closer to a mid-major and teams that have been strong recently like Villanova, DePaul and Marquette have fallen off.

Compiling wins probably isn't going to be enough because there will be few quality wins (The BE has four Q1 wins total, three by UConn and one by Georgetown). Winning the BET may be the only way into the NCAAs.

My point was that was their route in. They need many more wins just to be in the conversation. Getting to the Finals of The BigEast beating Creighton along the way could still have them out. First, they have to win these games or the point is moot.

Ladies get a nice win over a rival in front of a great crowd and all people can do is piss on it! WTF!? The ladies are having a great season. Instead of pissing on the effort why doesn’t everyone here make an effort to get up to campus and actually support our team!?

Yes, they need more support. It has been a bounce back year so far. Their interior defense last season was very bad. This year much better. Plus they have added some long term talent. Unfortunately, they don't have a standout OOC win and have been beaten badly by top teams. They don't really have a bad loss to date.

I’d disagree … people recognize they are having a good year, it’s just their standing in the overall picture that’s being mentioned. Nothing wrong with a little perspective, especially when it’s accurate. Everyone knows they are doing well.

They are doing well, and they are a fun watch.

But there is nothing wrong to share honest perspective, especially for those of us who have seen them multiple times in person.

The team is good, smart, and passionate, but they are not built to beat top 40 talent.

Here's hoping they can beat Creighton away on Feb 1 , to get one solid victory this season, that would give them a shot at a low ncaa seed.

The Walsh crowds have been fun, loud, and passionate, but there has been nothing remotely near a full house yet.

UConn and hopefully senior day will change that,if you all come out!
