CINCINNATI, OH. — On the eve of the new year, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to Xavier, 94-72, in its final game of 2024.

Isaiah Coleman led the Pirates (5-9) with 19 points (7-of-20 from the field). The Musketeers (9-5) featured six double-digit scorers, while the Pirates struggled from the field (23-61 from the field, 37.7%).

How It Happened

The Pirates came out firing against the Musketeers. Isaiah Coleman drew first blood, putting the Pirates up 2-0 on a contested jumper in the lane. Jahseem Felton, in his first start of the season, quickly followed that up with a three-pointer to put The Hall up 5-0 with 17:56 left on the clock. Unphased by the Pirates' hot start, the Musketeers responded with a 16-0 run, in which they shot 6/7 from the field, to go up 16-5 with 13:07 remaining in the half.

Despite the deficit, the Pirates began to draw themselves back into the game. Led by five points from Chaunce Jenkins, The Hall went on a 10-6 run to reduce its deficit to 7, 22-15, with 10:57 remaining in the half. However, the foul-troubled Pirates were faced with another push from the Musketeers. Powered by threes and foul shots, the Musketeers went on a 12-8 run to expand the home team's lead back to 11, 34-23, with 4:25 left before the break. Over the final four minutes of the half, both sides traded buckets, but a buzzer-beater from Xavier would send The Hall to the half down 13, 44-31.

The second half began with a bang as Scotty Middleton drained a three to cut the Pirates deficit to 10, 44-34. Despite The Hall's strong start, the Musketeers defense stifled the Pirates offense during the opening stanza of the second half. As the clock ticked past 13 minutes remaining, Xavier capped off a 21-to-7 run that saw their lead grow to 24, 65-41. The Pirates attempted to find their way back into the game with the help of Chaunce Jenkins and Dylan Addae-Wusu, but the deficit was too large. In the end, the Pirates fell to Xavier 94-72.
