PROMOTIONS
- The game is presented by Seton Hall ROTC
Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) had a double-double and set the Seton Hall women's basketball single-game record for steals as the Pirates downed Xavier, 72-47, in Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday.
Catalon finished with a program-record 11 steals, a record that was set by Pirates' Hall of Famer Phyllis Mangina with 10 steals against Saint Peter's on Jan. 19, 1978, and matched by Ozelina Gorham three years later. Overall, Seton Hall's 23 team steals are the highest by any BIG EAST team in conference play so far this season, and are one shy of the program team record.
The Hall ran away from Xavier in the second half thanks largely to the Pirates' full-court pressure. The Musketeers committed 33 turnovers for the game, including 20 in the second half.
Catalon finished with 17 points and 11 steals for the first double-double of the year for any Pirate. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had 16 points and four rebounds. Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Golden Eagles: Marquette leads, 20-12
Earlier This Year:
Seton Hall 58, Marquette 52 (F) – January 15, 2025 (Al McGuire Center)
AGAINST MARQUETTE
Seton Hall and Marquette will meet for the second time this season on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles own a 20-12 all-time series lead, but The Hall snapped a three-game losing streak to Marquette earlier this season with a 58-52 victory on Jan. 15. The win was the program's first-ever over the Golden Eagles in the Al McGuire Center. Seton Hall is a sparkling 12-2 in Walsh Gym this season, while Marquette is just 4-6 on the road.
EARLIER THIS WEEK AGAINST MARQUETTE
Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had a game-high 20 points to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 58-52 victory at Marquette on Jan. 15. The victory is the first ever for the program in Milwaukee, snapping an 0-14 record in road games at Marquette.
Eads finished with a game-high 20 points to go with five rebounds and three steals. Graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) tallied 14 points and eight rebounds, while Ja'Kahla Craft (Elk River, Minn.) collected a career-high 10 points to go with five rebounds and two steals.
SCOUTING MARQUETTE
This season, Marquette was again picked to finish 10th in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference.
The Golden Eagles enter Wednesday's game with a 15-8 overall record and a 7-5 mark in BIG EAST play. Currently, Marquette is tied for fourth place with Villanova and two games behind Seton Hall for third place. Since playing Seton Hall, the Golden Eagles have won four of six games, but are coming off a surprising loss to Butler, 67-65, on Sunday in Indianapolis. Skylar Forbes leads the team with 15.6 points per game, while Lee Volker and Halle Vice are also averaging in double-figures in scoring.
