No offense, and this coming from a fan of your podcast, but I never found you to be “down the middle.” The podcast was a constant complaint of Willard. It’s clear you didn’t like the guy but to not admit that what he did here was nothing short of spectacular is asinine. And that’s not just you. It’s a majority of the older generation who witnessed the PJ era and expects greatness from a small private school in South Orange, NJ, playing in a power conference with some historic programs. The amount of time that has passed since ‘89 and when Willard found his footing and established a culture and a program is certainly not short. We’re not a blue blood. We’re not even a class below. We are Seton Hall where winning can never be taken for granted.
Sorry but my goal is PJ level hoops, we tasted a bit of that with Willard.

Hmm, which side should I be on, Leftcoast pirates’s having high expectations for the program or yours being satisfied with being redundant, I’m on the Leftcoast pirates side here.

Being critical of the coach is every fans right, whether it be Sha’s or Kevin’s. We as hardcore fans should be hard to please.

Leftcoast podcast was a good podcast for the casual pirates fan and for the hardcore fan a great one.

I don’t agree. I don’t think you can find any of either of those takes on this board.
Please read SHUSA on Willard. That's just the easiest 1. Or just ask him, he's flat out honest, he hates everything about the guy, claims Willard is a beta, and an unlikeable person. I don't despise the guy for his opinion, he's entitled to it, but those types of opinions are out there right on the board to read.

Willard was/is a good coach. He’ll be in the SHU HOF someday and deservingly so. He’s responsible for 2 of our 6 BE titles, nothing to scoff at considering we’ve been in the BE for 40+ years. At the start of last year before the weird COVID interruption and Aiken’s injury I thought we maybe had our best team with him. Yeah the 1-5 NCAAT record dogs him and the couple collapses (2012, 2021), as does the unknown of 2020. Cest la vie.

Will Holloway outdo that? Will he win more than 1 NCAAT game in 12 seasons? Here’s hoping.

Sha has one hurdle that Kevin didn’t have to deal with and that’s NIL and the financial benefits the deep pocket schools can offer to recruits. The simple fact that we don’t have one commit in the early signing period may be telling of how difficult a job Sha faces.

Yes NIL is new. As one person told me once, we have a really good chance with a player who later went to LSU, if he decides he doesn't want any of the 8 bags of cash being thrown at him. The cash game has always been going on. As another poster mentioned, Eddie Griffin was driving a nice car. Look around the country how many players have horrible stories of no money growing up then get thousands of dollars of tattoos on their body. Where did that come from? It's been right in front of our faces for decades. Programs have been finding ways to get players money. You don't need to be a great detective to figure this out. Derm Player trying to help the Washburn family out. Can your program get my sister a modeling contract? NIL is new the money game is not.

Willard did a nice job here. Certainly not "spectacular." That's way over the top. We're a Big East program, he exceeded regular season expectations in the back half of his tenure. The front half wasn't so good and neither was the tournament performance.

Your last point is fair. Both the front end and the postseason were bad. But we weren’t a “program.” We are now. And that’s due to what he built here. I do view his tenure here as spectacular. It took how many coaches to get us back to respectability?

Lol “redundant.” 33 years. That’s how long it’s been since the glory years. A few sprinkles of success in between, and then finally…stability. That’s what Willard brought here. Maybe he wasn’t the coach who could get us over the hump, but he was the coach that brought a winning culture. The only Big East team to consistently give Villanova a run for their money. I hope Sha brings us to the top. Obviously. But the hate from the faithful for Willard baffles me. To each their own. It’s a new era. Let’s go win some basketball games.

What hate? I liked Willard a lot.

Sorry. Misread your post.
My point was you can respect the job someone is doing and still be critical. It doesn’t have to be absolutes.

Leftcoast Pirates could be more on the critical side at times but they praised him often as well and certainly respect what Willard did in his tenure at the Hall. If it was all butterflies and roses, it would be a super boring podcast.

I'm stucking coming on here and seeing that you quoted my posts. Nothing worse than that.
idk, if it’s so bad for you maybe stop making your crappy takes public on a message board if you don’t want to hear from people how idiotic they are 🤷

Idk, there must be a lot of idiots on here who seem to like my posts. My posts are so idiotic I gave you a person who clearly hates all things Willard related. Nice that when I replied to you naming a person on here who hates all things Willard you couldn’t debate that. You chose to be low class and attack me, so as far as I’m concerned you can go perform the impossible act of procreation upon yourself and when you are done you can block me. 🤷‍♂️

ALL things considered at the Hall and during his tenure, much closer to " 'spectacular' " than "nice."

They have Miami first, tomorrow at Mohegan Sun.

To Maryland's credit, they smacked down what is supposed to be a pretty good St. Louis team today.
Saint Louis is pretty good, they're an excellent offensive team and KW's defense took them apart. Saint Louis also beat Memphis by 6, who we'll play on Thanksgiving.

Miami is also pretty good and handled Providence with ease, then Maryland beat them by about 20 today for the tourney title.

I’ve heard this before, lol…

This is great. Nice to see Kevin having early success (and fun).

They chanted his name in the stands at the end of the game. Nice time to hit up the big donors for more NIL money and he will put together one of the best recruiting classes in his career.

He’s already there. They have something like 11th ranked right now. Maryland has a ton of money and resources, including the founder of UA himself who even spoke at KW’s intro.

St. Louis turned around and defeated Providence in PC's backyard today.
