Princeton/RU

Well we may be pitiful, but at this point it looks like Rutgers dream season is going to be a bust.

Misery loves company.
I think Rutgers "dream season" was a message board creation. I don't think anyone objective thought with that roster this was a team that was going to contend for titles. I think folks thought they'd be a NCAA team, which is very much in play, and that the two freshman would be really good, which they are. Having those kids is still a massive boon to that program.

Now I know what defense looks like on Harper with only seconds left in the game.
Harper made a nice subtle move to create separation against Dual. We could have defended better but give Harper credit for making a play.

See what happens when you at least put a hand in the face of harper?

Very different situations.

Last week, RU has a timeout and more than six seconds to work with. Today, no timeouts and less than five seconds.

Two seconds is a big difference and since play continued after Princeton's make, the middle of the court was clogged. Harper also took the ball deeper than he did last week, again, meaning there was more traffic than he had to deal with against us. He literally ran into the defender.

If there was more than 6 seconds left RU would’ve won. The Harper heave was caught and put in by Bailey just barely after the clock hit 0.

Their board is complaining about playing Princeton. 😵‍💫 Guess they think they should only be playing with the KUs, NCs & Dukie Vs of the world since they’re so BIG. Oh wait, Kenneslawee (sp) is a better fit with their vaunted b-ball history.
😂😂😂😂

That’s all message boards. Remember the big debate over the summer about playing Hofstra away or at a neutral site 5 minutes from their campus.

I’ve been beating the Xaivian Lee drum for two years now. The kid is awesome. Caden Pierce too. The two best players in NJ after Dylan Harper. Xaivian is a pro.

I would really love to know how another program with more money didn't snatch these two. Lee especially.

Makes you wonder if we tried to get him because both those guys would be by far our best players after Coleman

Lee is canadian american with south korean heritage and princeton was a catered choice

Pierce is from the midwest and had loyola md as another significant offer

That was my first time watching Lee play. I only caught the final 7 minutes. I know he had a great stat line at that point, but when it mattered most he had some very bad turnovers that nearly handed RU the game

Lee is tremendous. Gets a bit reckless but the team relies on him so much... What happens with a good PG.

You put him on our team and we're likely at least 9-3 instead of 5-7.

Out of HS, no one wanted them. Princeton was the only school to offer Lee while Pierce had a few other low-level offers. Credit to Mitch Henderson for finding them and developing them.

How he's kept them there is certainly a great question. Jerry wrote about it in the Spring (link below). Out of 22 "mid-major" Players of the Year, none returned to their school except for Pierce. He's the team leader and very close to Lee. Lee turned down NBA 2-way contract offers to return in an effort to improve his NBA stock.

Seems they both realize they are in great and unique situations with Henderson at Princeton and don't want to jeopardize future careers for a quick payday. Princeton has had a couple of guys in the NBA recently so they know it can be done.

Because Princeton does have money and they can sell they’ll make sure they’re taken care of well after school with a Princeton degree

Not even close to the same thing. Re SHU, he was one on one in the open court with momentum.

Yesterday he had less time and Princeton had two men waiting for him in the frontcourt so he could not set his feet for the shot.

If you want to complain, then our issue was not doubling him on the inbound pass.

Lee was interviewed on Carino’s podcast and he explained why they stayed. Good listen.
