Even though he isnt playing I hope the players hold a grudge against Sina for quitting and come out ready to play tonight.

I'm sure there will be no love loss for either side. I hold nothing against Sina, the real blame for the situation was Willard. should have let Jaren walk when he originally wanted to walk.

The whole thing was a total mess. I hope we come out firing and blow their doors off. Wishful thinking.

Maybe the only time the postgame handshake line will be a watch.

Without knowing the intimate details of the situation you cannot fault this kid for leaving.

Can't fault him on leaving...I agree with that. But he quit in the middle of the season. If he left like Gibbs I would be fine with it. Any way you spin it, he quit on the team.

Have to wish him luck and move on. This game is not about Sina and shouldn't even be part of the conversation.

It's about our team growing and playing a tough oponent on the road. It's about our kids coming together and playing tough D for every second and improving offensively one possession at a time. Let's see if we rise to the challenge.

This.

People have all kinds of reasons for quitting. I have no idea what the gory details were but they were not good. They were a really bad reflection on everyone. If I recall even Sina played the closing minutes of his final game as a Pirate like it was his final game as Pirate; dominating the ball, throwing up shots.

Either way, personally, I wish him the best. Now go win the game.

Well said.

That was one for the books. I wonder how many college basketball players tried to walk off during player intros, because he wasn't starting. And if it did happen before, how many coaches would let that player play major minutes that game.
I wish Karlis had just ley him go.

I hope we come out ready to play tonight because we have a winning/warrior mentality, not because of some shu has been.

While it is true none of know the details of what happened, quitting in the middle of the season reflected poorly on Sina. You stick it out to the end of the season and move on. If the situation really demanded that Sina leave the team for his own safety, then everyone involved coaches and players should be gone from this program.

If we need Jaren Sina to get motivated for a win, we have much bigger problems.

We should have never have recruited him in the first place. Just another FH dud.

I looked for the box score of Saturday's Georgia game and mistakenly opened the box score for last year's Georgia game. Sina and Gibbs were a combined 1 for 16 from the field in that one.

I don't wish either of them any ill will, but if they never won another game, I'd be OK. Felt similarly about Amaker's departure. By the way, in UCONN's two big losses last weekend---Syracuse and Gonzaga----Gibbs disappeared, especially at the ends of each game.

Sina will be slow and over matched defensively in the A-10, too.

I was laughed at when I said Gibbs leaving was addition by subtraction. It's no coincidence that the defense has been significantly improved this year. Sure, we miss Gibbs late in the shot clock playmaking ability, but that is all. Always seemed to be a me-first player.

Couldn't agree more.

I am not sure the defense has played all that well. They had two good second halves against Miss and Georgia but I have not seen a huge turn around. Remember they allowed Long Beach St to shoot 55% for the game.

Btw, Gibbs is scoring 12 ppg leading the team in assists and steals per game. He is hitting 92% of his free throws. That is one streaky guy on the line. His 3 point % is down to 33%.

I liked Gibbs a lot. I wish he was still on the team and that he and IW could have co-existed. That would have been a special backcourt.

The GW site is very good looking site with nice shots of all the players, and since you can't see them on TV at least you can see who we are going up against. The reason I posted the link is because I LOL'ed when I saw the picture of Sina posing for a layup, which of course he couldn't make unless he had 15 feet of buffer around him with no defenders. And even then I would be holding my breath.

To be fair, Gonzaga was their 3rd game in 3 days. Solid in the win against Michigan, was ok vs Cuse and then bad against Gonzaga.

Glad he is gone though. Might be a good kid but was way too chippy on the court. Really tough to root for.

Absolutely. We'd be lethal with him on this year's roster. What a shame.

I'm still laughing at it, and it gets more ridiculous by the game. I don't equate ability with character, but he was our leader on both accounts.

Too many people got too star-struck by another savior and forgot about what we already had.

This discussion about Gibbs and Sina remind me of a scene from the movie Hoosiers when coach Normal Dale is introducing his team and the fans are calling for Jimmy Chitwood and Coach Dale comes on the court and says " this is your team , and it's about the players who are here , not the players who are not." Gibbs and Sina are not on this team and it's time to talk about the players who are here and support them and forget about those former players who chose to go elsewhere.

I think it's appropriate to consider the reasons those players are no longer here (at least one of them), and the willingness that exists to ignore those reasons. Yeah, this is our team, indeed.
