Just got off the phone with an AAU coach. We spoke about TT's transfer and I asked him what he knew.
He told me he really didn't know much about the particulars but he surmised that Mike Hopkins, who was considered the heir apparent to succeed Boeheim but left this past season, might have played a role in TT's decision to leave Syracuse.
Hopkins was the coach who recruited Thompson and from what I was told the 'guy' who was the buffer between Boeheim and many of the players. It seems like Boeheim was a little distant from the players and at times his tough as nails approach could get under their skins. That's where Hopkins was so good. Now with him gone the players lost a very important go between.
This coach I spoke to said that unless Hopkins is adequately replaced he thought moving forward that could cause issues with some players on the roster, present and future.
