Ranking the Big East coaches

I somewhat agree. But the list of national championship winning coaches, it isn't a long one. Dan has put himself on it.

For what it's worth, I always enjoy when people refer to Connecticut national championships as being "lucky". We wanted to play more difficult teams, but unfortunately there were none left. :D
My god, you’re such a victim…

For what it’s worth, can’t wait for UConn to leave.

Because I laugh at the whole "UConn was lucky narrative"? Yeah, can't say I'm particularly sorry about that. It's definitely the "beta" narrative.

I can't say that I am looking forward to leaving, but I do hope it happens. It's pretty much would mean near term financial security for the University.

Not necessarily at all. Conferences are always in motion and UConn is absolutely on the low end of the most wanted list. They would be very far from secure.

And, you better buy up all the home games you can because you aren’t traveling to your new opponents homes unless you’re getting frequent flyer miles.

No, because you’re here defending any slightly disparaging remarks about UConn. I can honestly count on one hand the seconds I spent on another team’s fan board in 2023.

Congrats, you won the national championship.

Not sure about the financial security. A lot of expenses are coming your way even if you get into the BiG 12. First UCONN is going to have to upgrade its entire athletic program. Mora said that himself a year ago— something to the effect that UCONN has no idea what it takes to operate at a P5 level In football.

Plus, UCONN is already in the hole financially. That plus the increased expenses for travel, increasing salaries and recruiting budget. You have no bus rides to any opponent. Ask Rutgers and they are getting twice what the Big 12 can provide.

The ACC commissioner made an interesting comment the other day— something to the effect that if you’re moving for $$$ you won’t get what you’re looking for. Identify your competitive strengths and focus on that. He should know. He has dead weight Syracuse and BC as good examples in his own league.

Shrugs. I like this board. Feel free to ignore my posts if they're in anyway offensive to you.

Well, if we get an invite to the big 12, getting paid just under 50 million a year will pay for awful lot of charter flights.

What programs do we need to upgrade? Our national champion men's basketball program? Our perennial final four women's basketball program (which has a very good shot to earn their 12th national championship this year, provided that they stay healthy)? Our baseball program that heads to the playoffs every year? All of those are already operating at a P5 level, and toward the top of the P5 at that.

Agree with you 100% the football needs to continue to improve, but it needs to improve regardless of whether it's an independent or as a part of a P5 conference.

Our facilities are already at a P5 level as you guys should know from the various videos I've posted here. Connecticut and has continued to make expenditures that are competitive with the P5 which has helped our programs continue to compete since the fall of the old big east. So, unlike Rutgers, it's not like we need to massively upgrade. We've been keeping up all along.

For what it's worth our travel cost in the American was about 2 million per year. Let's say that the cost of travel in the big 12 is $1 million a year more. It still wouldn't be a material number versus the conference distributions.

Financially, the decision to move is a no-brainer. We have to get an offer first and it isn't clear to me that that is a certainty.

Where does it say you get a full share? I’ve seen it reported many many times that Fox only guaranteed immediate full share to current P5 schools. Most think that non-P5 schools would have to negotiate and NOT receive full shares from Fox

Ok, man. You have all the answers. But UConn is still waiting for 12+ years for that P5 invite. So far UConn hasn’t been good enough.

It’s really very simple. Your pursuit of football and so far unrealized dream of joining a P5 league hinges on the kindness of others. Namely, the Pac12 collapsing. Arizona, Ariz Staye, Utah, Oregon, Washington and maybe even SDSU are all in line ahead of you.

Again, the Big12 presidents first choice is to look west for established P5 schools. They have the votes. The B12 commission has done a great job and has gained credibility in the conf and has been an advocate for UConn. If all the aforementioned schools hang with the Pac12, then UConn has a real opportunity.

You and I have discussed this in the past, I think. Yormark specifically talked about the big 12 contract which provides for a pro rata increase in distributions, from ESPN, for any P5 edition. Fox hast to separately approve each admission regardless of whether it's P5 or G5. He said that after discussion with the media partners it was agreed that Connecticut would be treated as if it was a P5 edition for the purposes of the big 12 contract.

I think that's fair. There may be one or two other permutations that still would allow Connecticut to end up in the big 12, but it's far from certain.

For my part, I'm not stressing about it one way or another. If it happens, terrific it happens and Connecticut gets a seat at the big boy table. At that point it's up to us to make a run of it or not. Alternatively, we remain in the Big East, which fans, coaches and even administrators all like, but for the differential and distributions. We are just in a far different place then when we were in the American, where every moment sucked, and every opportunity to leave seemed life or death.
