They put themselves in the position to allow for the first down run. Don't like it? Don't let it happen next time.
Couldn’t disagree more. Watch what happens if a guy bunts on his own for a hit late in a lopsided game. Doesn’t matter if the coach calls it or not, the next guy is getting drilled. There’s things you just don’t do. If you’re out there to punt, punt the freaking ball. I don’t blame RU for the late hit just like I wouldn’t blame a pitcher for throwing a batter for something like this. While I guess I can understand why this is a big deal, to me it isn't. And it has nothing to do with it being RU or Schiano.
Midway through the fourth quarter, it's fourth and two at my own 39. Even with the game well in hand, ideally I'd like to keep the football to try to run more time off the clock.
Should it have been a fake punt? Playing it straight up would have been better from an optics viewpoint, but we've already established that the OSU coaching staff didn't call it. That means their punter saw something where he felt he could make it.
Frankly from the OSU standpoint up 49-10, I can live with it if it doesn't work out. I've got bigger problems if RU somehow makes a game of it.
The thing that kind of gets glossed over is the late hit by the RU player. That didn't need to happen. As others have said, don't like it, stop it.
so a late hit is fine because rutgers stinks??Bush league by the punter. I have no problem with the late hit by RU. To me it is the same as a pitcher throwing at a batter after a home run/bat toss.
On the other hand, I would have no problem if OSU went for the 1st down on 4th and 2 with 9 minutes left. Simple running play or pass into the flats. The fake punt was on the punter, not the staff.
No a late his okay because you're not going to stand for the other team doing bush league things.so a late hit is fine because rutgers stinks??
the only thing bush league was rutgers. its a conference opponent suck it up. nobody is crying for lil rutgers. No a late his okay because you're not going to stand for the other team doing bush league things.
Sort of, but not exactly. The league had (justifiable) concerns that Temple was not sufficiently committed to providing the proper resources to support a football program in the Big East. And that was a fair concern, as there was not universal support for maintaining the program. In fact, the program survived, period, by a single vote among the board of trustees. But it wasn't for on-field performance. They were certainly no worse than Rutgers at the time.Pretty sure Temple football was booted from the Big East for failing to meet minimum requirements
I was never a fan of running up the score or showing up an opponent.so a late hit is fine because rutgers stinks??
I'd hate to get into a pick up basketball game with you. You sound like a guy who likes to throw elbows.I was never a fan of running up the score or showing up an opponent.
The OSU punter took a risk when he faked the punt. The kid on RU took offense to it and taught him a lesson. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
So you are okay with a hit on a defenseless player out-of-bounds to prove a point? Geez.I was never a fan of running up the score or showing up an opponent.

I'm the cleanest player you can imagine. However, If we were in a real game, not pickup and you tried to take the ball while my teammate were running out the clock in a blowout game and go for a cheap dunk: If you made the dunk, you would be going for the old fashioned three-point play.I'd hate to get into a pick up basketball game with you. You sound like a guy who likes to throw elbows.
Are you okay with a pitcher hitting a batter after the batter hits a home run and tosses the bat, making an a-hole out of the pitcher? So you are okay with a hit on a defenseless player out-of-bounds to prove a point? Geez.
its an illegal hit. illegal hit. the punter made a legal play.I was never a fan of running up the score or showing up an opponent.

he starts calling fouls when he misses. and challenges people to a fight when losing an argument.I'd hate to get into a pick up basketball game with you. You sound like a guy who likes to throw elbows.
Of course Schiano had his Bucs players rush the Giants taking a knee. The guy is a clown.![]()
WATCH: Ryan Day, Greg Schiano get heated after fake punt, late hit in Ohio State-Rutgers game
Schiano clearly didn't appreciate an Ohio State fake punt in a blowout and Day didn't like that his punter got smoked out of bounds.www.on3.com
Rutgers started a fight against Ohio State because they felt humiliated. Even Schiano got in on the action. Rutgers was outraged that Ohio State would do a trick play when up so many points. Rutgers: How dare you embarrass us! We deserve respect; we beat Wagner by 50 pts. man! 🤣
Baseball is different. It's not a timed sport. So if you're bunting or stealing a base late in a 11-1 game, you're padding your stats, you're not trying to move the clock along.Couldn’t disagree more. From your OSU standpoint, if they were worried about RU making a game of it CJ Stroud and the rest of the 1st team would've still been in the game.
Like Herb Pope did against Rutgers.I'm the cleanest player you can imagine. However, If we were in a real game, not pickup and you tried to take the ball while my teammate were running out the clock in a blowout game and go for a cheap dunk: If you made the dunk, you would be going for the old fashioned three-point play.
OSU was bush league because Rutgers wasn’t prepared and is grossly overmatched!? A late hit can be incredibly dangerous. It was incredibly stupid but given the school and the coach I’m not surprised. No a late his okay because you're not going to stand for the other team doing bush league things.
Yes, Mendelssohn and Beethoven too, for that matter! It’s really not a fake when a rugby style guy always has the option of running. Granted it was not an option he should have taken given the circumstances.
It may have been a case of false hustle, but Schiano is the king of that stuff. Keep chopin!

Sorry, condoning is a cheap shot is bad form. Especially one around the head. Even in baseball, the one thing you don't do in retaliating is throwing at a guy's head.
There are ways to make your point without being reckless.
There was no Haydn from that one.Yes, Mendelssohn and Beethoven too, for that matter!
Precisely....there was ZERO excuse for the late hit which was a complete cheap shot.so a late hit is fine because rutgers stinks??
The Rutgers player was ejected from the game.I agree, baseball is different. The clock won’t expire on a comeback in baseball. That 11-1 game in the 9th can be lost. OSU wasn’t giving up 5 TDs and 2 point tries in the final 10 minutes. RU wasn’t going to score 3 times in the final 10 minutes. Baseball leads are more unsafe than football. Just like in baseball even though the opportunity is there for the taking, you don’t take it. The fact is baseball you can argue no lead is too safe. You can't argue that in football.
The hit was not to the head or neck area. College football throws guys out of a game every week where the announcers say there’s nothing the defender could’ve done. They are very cautious around the head and neck area. If this was around the head he would’ve been rightfully thrown out. It wasn’t. They didn’t even review it. The head didn’t thrust back in a bad way like he took a shot to the head. The guy was out of bounds. No doubt. This happens every week in football where a guy is hit out of bounds, but for some reason this was one was different. Not because a guy was far out of bounds, but because a punter ran for a first down up 39 with under 10 to go.
My bad, I meant to type for rightfully thrown out for targeting as we were talking about a hit to the head. There's no report he needs to sit out next game. If it was for targeting, he'd have to sit out. The officials ruled it flagrant and he was ejected. Not for a hit to the head. The Rutgers player was ejected from the game.
Agree. Comparing baseball to football is kind of odd, as is condoning a cheap shot.Baseball is different. It's not a timed sport. So if you're bunting or stealing a base late in a 11-1 game, you're padding your stats, you're not trying to move the clock along.

These late hits out of bounds happen every week. If it happened in a 10-10 game, people would be talking about how stupid the RU player is like they do when it happens every week. The different circumstances of this late hit are you have a punter running the ball with a 39 point lead in the 4th quarter. It was a bonehead hit, but not doing your job of punting the ball considering time and score is bush league and crap happens when you do bush league stuff. The RU player went in there to light him up for doing something bush league. Everyone including the officials knew the play was bush league, and they also knew the RU players intentions. Watch football this weekend, see how many late hits out of bounds can be categorized as cheap shots out of frustration, and see how hardly any lead to ejections. Heck some late hits on the QBs are cheap shots and they only result in 15 yards. Never an ejection. This late hit was intention because of a bush league play. Everyone knew why he would have those intentions.Agree. Comparing baseball to football is kind of odd, as is condoning a cheap shot.
lol but was it bush league? doesn't matter how many paragraphs you write nobody agrees with you. and you keep making yourself look bad. cry some more geez. maybe the Rutgers guy should make a tackle in bounds for once lmaoThese late hits out of bounds happen every week. I understand where you're coming from, late hits/cheap shots are acceptable because that is what is expected. These late hits out of bounds happen every week. Actually everyone who isn't an OSU fan or RU hater agrees it was classless and bush league.lol but was it bush league? doesn't matter how many paragraphs you write nobody agrees with you. and you keep making yourself look bad. cry some more geez. maybe the Rutgers guy should make a tackle in bounds for once lmao

Bush league play by the punter. The hit was only a foot or so out of bounds but still cheap. The punter deserved to get knocked on his ass for his bush league play and the RU player deserved the ejection. These late hits out of bounds happen every week.
