Rutgers...

There’s zero chance they accept the NIT invite. Can’t allow the 2 freshman to look bad because you know they wouldn’t play the NIT with the rest of their team.

Harper and Bailey are great, but there is a huge difference between 23 year olds and 18 year olds.

This is actually good evidence as to why coaches are no longer going to recruit high school players but older transfers instead.

Regardless----- screw Rutgers this couldnt have happened to a more deserving team.

I don’t think they’re even eligible for any post season with a losing record and no conference tourney championship.

Who had a more disappointing season?

Us
Expectation: Question marks but hope to find a path to the right side of the bubble
Result: Possibly the worst major conference team in the country

Them
Expectation: Final Four or bust
Result: Under .500 no tourney bid

We had hope but that was about it.
RU had hype and two top 5/10 lottery picks. They were a complete bust.

NIL is a crapshoot, but spending that kind of money on two freshman has even more risk. There season is exhibit A.

There will be no NIT invite forthcoming, but if the College Basketball Crown (owned and run by Fox Sports) want them, participation is compulsory.

Oops. My bad....I missed that this was about Rutgers. I thought it was us. Having said that, I agree with you 100% that their season was very comparable to our Eddie Griffin year. Both were epic disasters and were supposed to be seasons of triumph.

Yeah, I think our 2000-01 season was way more disappointing, even though they had two top 5 picks. We were ranked #10 preseason with the #1 recruiting class coming off a Sweet 16 run and reached as high as #7. They were #25 preseason, missed the tournament in back-to-back years and didn't get much higher than that. Some of their fans probably had unrealistic expectations given that they had two highly touted players coming in like this before.

so how do the high school players get looks now? Remember when teams have " recruiting class rankings"?

How do you not win with Ace and Dylan Harper......?

How did Pike do it?

Difficult to lose games with 2 Top 5 picks....almost impossible, but they found a way.

Pike has to be on the hot seat. A couple of NCAAs with a play in game for one of them is not a lot to show so far.

Wasted potential? Disagree. This was a case of a severe lack of talent....particularly offensive talent.
Actually it was their Defense that sucked this year. Statistically, this was the best offensive season of Pikiell's 20 years as a Head Coach but was by far the worst defensive ratings in his 9 years at Rutgers.

Pikiell went away from his comfort zone as a defensive-minded coach. He started 3 offensive-minded freshmen and didn't have a rim protector or any great defenders he became known for with Cliff, Mag, McConnell, etc.

It is for Rutgers based on their great mens b-ball tradition. 😂
He broke a 30 year absence from the dance. They should name the arena after him. Surely Louis Brown isn’t going to mind.

He had to start and run with his one and dones . Unfortunately they didn’t think defense was part of their million dollar gig
