Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) pitched six strong innings and junior
Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) collected three hits, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell to St. John's, 2-1, on Sunday.
After being shut out on Saturday, St. John's wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard today. The Red Storm struck for a run off Prendergast in the bottom of the first inning. The right-hander however, settled down nicely afterward.
The Hall struck back in the top of the fourth inning with a little two-out hitting. Junior
Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) led off with a double to left field. After advancing to third, Alescio singled up the middle to drive in Molina with the tying run.
Turning Point:
With the game locked at one, it was St. John's who rallied with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Senior
Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn.) quickly retired the first two batters he faced, but St. John's Michael Donadio followed with a two-out double. Jesse Berardi then sent the first pitch he saw into center field for a base hit to score Donadio with the winning run.
Inside the Numbers:
- Prendergast allowed only one run on four hits over six strong innings. He walked four and struck out four in a no decision.
- Alescio was the lone Pirate with multiple hits. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
- Senior Anthony Pacillo (Lyndhurst, N.J.) pitched a perfect eighth inning with a strikeout.
- Seton Hall left seven men on base, while St. John's left 11.
News & Notes:
- Prendergast's start today is the 35th of his career, which ties him with teammate Shane McCarthy and former Pirate Charlie Puleo for eighth place on Seton Hall's career list.
- Toke has now hit safely in 10 consecutive games. It's the longest current streak on the team.
- Pacillo's appearance today was his first since March 26.
- Pacillo's appearance today is the 69th of his career, which ranks ninth all-time at Seton Hall.
- Seton Hall falls to 58-67 all-time against the Red Storm.

Seton Hall will be back in action on Friday, May 5 when it returns to Owen T. Carroll Field to begin a crucial three-game series against Creighton. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
