THE GAME

Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, December 2 when it hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore in historic Walsh Gymnasium. Tip time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

MEDIA
The game will be streamed live by the Pirate Sports Network and available for FloHoops subscribers with Matt Ambrose and Phil Stern on the call. LAST GAME
Sophomore Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.) banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, but the Pirates were outlasted by No. 25 Princeton, 75-71, in double-overtime.

Trailing 59-56 with one second left, Gray banked in a shot in front of her bench to force extra basketball. With under a minute remaining in the second overtime, Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) hit a pair of free-throws to give The Hall a 71-70 lead. The Tigers' Skye Belker hit a jumper with only 37 seconds left to put Princeton back ahead, and then Princeton iced the game on the free-throw line.

The Hall bested the strong-rebounding Tigers, 43-to-36, but it committed a season-high 28 turnovers and was just 10-for-20 from the free-throw line.

Gray was brilliant, going for a game-high 24 points on the strength of 7-for-13 shooting from three-point range. She also had a season-high six rebounds. Baines had a tough night shooting the ball, but still collected her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Hawks: First Meeting

AGAINST UMES
Saturday's contest will be the first-ever meeting between the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Seton Hall.

SCOUTING UMES
UMES is coming off a 10-20 season in 2022-23, which included a 5-9 record in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. The Hawks upset second-seeded Morgan State in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament, but was edged by Howard University, 62-60, in the semifinals.

UMES was picked to finish fourth among the eight teams of the MEAC according to the 2023-24 Coaches Preseason Poll. The Hawks return 11 players from last year's roster and welcome three new players to the program. Returners include Cache' Wilson, Mahogany Lester, Jala Bannerman, Mya Thomas, Ariana Seawell, Amiaya Morgan, Lesley Thomas, Ashanti Lynch, Lainey Allen and Zamara Haynes a All-MEAC Preseason First Team selection.

The Hawks enter the weekend with a 4-3 record overall and have won three straight games. Their season began with a pair of tough road contests, suffering losses at Georgetown and at Virgina. Since, UMES has gone 4-1 and are coming off a convincing 69-52 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday. Three Hawks are averaging in double-figures in scoring, led by Haynes with 13.6 points per game.

Pirates Run Away from UMES in Second Half, 78-54​

The Hall outscored the Hawks, 46-to-26, in the second half.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) and Savannah Catalon (Burleson, Texas) scored 17 points apiece and the Seton Hall women's basketball team pulled away from Maryland Eastern Shore in the second half for a 78-54 victory on Saturday.

After trailing by only four at the half, The Hall routed the Hawks in the second half, outscoring them, 46-to-26, and shooting 63.3 percent from the floor.

Baines finished with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting and collected five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Catalon had a career-high 17 points on a highly-efficient 6-for-8 shooting, including 3-for-4 from three-point range.

Senior Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with eight points, a game-high 10 assists and three steals with only two turnovers.




THE STORY:
Leading 7-3, The Hall went on a scoring drought over the next 5:33, which included six turnovers. In that time, UMES went on a 12-0 run to grab a 15-7 advantage with 2:14 left in the first quarter. The Pirates closed out the first 10 minutes with a burst of their own, and a jumper by Savannah Catalon (Burleson, Texas) as time expired cut The Hall's deficit to 19-17.

Trailing 24-22, The Hall went on a 10-2 burst, and a jumper by Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.) gave it a 32-26 advantage with 2:35 to go before the break. The Hall held the Hawks without a made field goal over the final 4:11 of the first half and took a 32-28 lead into the locker room.

Seton Hall opened the third quarter with an 8-1 run to grab a commanding 40-29 advantage. Leading 40-34, The Hall went on a 12-3 burst, and a jumper by Baines put it in front, 52-37, with 1:43 left in the third.

Up 54-43, the Pirates took off again, going on a 16-1 run, and a three-pointer by Catalon gave them an insurmountable 70-44 advantage.

THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 31-for-57 (54.4%) from the floor for the game, while UMES was 21-for-53 (39.6%). The Hall was 6-for-21 (28.6%) from three-point range, while the Hawks were 5-for-14 (35.7%).
  • Baines had 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting with five rebounds, three assist and three steals.
  • The Hall out-rebounded UMES, 35-to-29, but the Hawks had a 12-to-9 edge on the offensive glass.
  • Catalon had a career-high 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting, including 3-for-4 from three-point range.
  • Seton Hall was 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the free-throw line, while UMES was 7-for-16 (43.8%).
  • Wright had eight points on 4-for-4 shooting to go with a game-high 10 assists, three steals and only two turnovers.
  • Seton Hall forced 24 turnovers, while the Hawks forced 17. The Hall had a 22-to-19 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
  • Satterfield had eight points on 4-for-5 shooting with six rebounds.
  • The Pirates had 12 fast-break points, compared to none for UMES. They out-scored the Hawks in the paint, 40-to-22.



THE NOTES:
  • Seton Hall improves to 5-3 on the young season, while UMES drops to 4-4.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between Maryland Eastern Shore and Seton Hall.
  • Seton Hall has shot better than .400 from the field in all eight of its games so far this season.
  • Baines has also now scored in double-figures 28 times in her career and in five straight games.
  • Wright has collected at least six assists in six straight games.
  • Graduate student Brazil Harvey-Carr (Camden, N.J.) made her Seton Hall debut.
  • The Pirates improve to 120-46 in Walsh Gym during the Bozzella era. Furthermore, the Pirates are now 61-12 against non-conference opponents at home.
  • With seven points tonight, Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.) surpassed the 600-mark for her career.
  • With six rebounds tonight, A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill.) reached the 1,100-mark for her career.
  • All five of Seton Hall's victories this year have come by at least 11 points. The Hall's average margin of victory in its five wins is 25.0 points per game.
  • Wright reached double-figures in assists for the second time this season. She now has a BIG EAST-leading 58 assists on the season.
  • Seton Hall's 54.4 percent shooting from the floor today is a season-high.
