Seton Hall Mens Soccer Keeps Rolling

I'm so happy they won today. Manhattan, picked in the preseason MAAC coaches poll to finish 3rd, is off to a rough start at 0 - 3.

By the way, did we break a record today for fouls and yellow cards? The Jaspers must have some bruises. Lol.

The Hall shuts out Manhattan, 1-0, in a physical, rainy affair at Owen T. Carroll Field.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Freshman Til Kauschke (Hamburg, Germany) scored the game's lone goal in the 68th minute to lift the Seton Hall men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Manhattan at Owen T. Carroll Field on Sunday.

It was a very physical, somewhat chippy game with the teams needing to be separated on occasion in the second half. After an evenly played first half, the Pirates largely dominated the tempo in the second half.

The Pirates (3-0-0) out-shot the Jaspers, 8-to-6, and had four shots on goal, compared to just one for Manhattan. Junior goalkeeper Matias Molina (Rosario, Argentina) made one save for The Hall to earn the victory

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half featured physical play with teams battling through periods of rain. Seton Hall and Manhattan combined for just five shots, but The Hall had the only shot on goal. Kauschke unleashed a laser that was stopped by Manhattan goalkeeper Ludvig Malberg in the 29th minute.

In the second half, Manhattan appeared to have taken the lead in the 54th minute, but the goal was called off due to offsides, which was upheld by video review. With the game still deadlocked in the 68th minute, Kauschke took a cross pass from Jared Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) and fired a left-footed rocket into the right side of the goal.

Go Pirates!

They beat the worst team in the Ivy League but it was a fairly close game until late.

I'm glad we scored 2 goals.

Our defense has been stellar.

Seton Hall improves to 4-0-0 for the first time since the 2008 season.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Graduate student Soren Jensen (Nyborg, Denmark) made seven saves and both Thomas Sellwood (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Sam Bjork (Huskvarna, Sweden) scored as the No. 22 Seton Hall men's soccer team blanked Columbia, 2-0, at Owen T. Carroll Field on Friday.

With the victory, The Hall improves to a perfect 4-0-0 for the first time since 2008.

Sellwood scored the game-winner, breaking the scoreless tie in the 31st minute on a perfect cross by Jack Kossoudji (Columbus, Ohio). Jensen picked up his first shutout of the season and made all seven saves in the second half as Columbia was trying to rally.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pirates controlled the tempo in the first half with the vast majority of play taking place on Columbia's side of the field. In the 32nd minute, Rikard Cederberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) found Kossoudji with a long pass down the far sideline. Kossoudji out-ran his defender and fired a cross pass in front of the goal, which Sellwood one-timed over Columbia's goalkeeper for the game's first goal. The Hall out-shot Columbia, 5-2, in the first half, but neither of the Lions' shots were on goal.

Early in the second half, Jensen stymied Columbia's Ryan Yang from about 15 yards directly in front of the goal to keep Seton Hall in front. In the 63rd minute, Jensen made back-to-back impressive saves when he stopped a long strike from the left of the goal, and then a rebound from only feet away.

In the 82nd minute, the Pirates put the game away when Bjork took advantage of a Columbia defender's miscue. Bjork continued to hustle as the defender attempted to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper. Bjork intercepted and scored easily from five yards out.

Seton Hall will return to action on Monday, September 9 when it makes the short trip to Piscataway, N.J. for a contest against local rival Rutgers. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

They just lost to Providence 1 - 0. They were down a player due to a red card for much of the game. They seem good defensively anyway.

They were picked by Big 10 coaches to finish low in the standings.
Big10 is a very strong soccer conference so can’t put much stock in that. Should be a even matchup

Make that 5-0-0, with a dominating 3.1 win over Rutgers in Pisscataway!!
I’d pause on the dominating, was actually quite hairy.

RU got a red card about 24 minutes in and we scored within a few minutes and then 10 minutes later.

RU pressed the whole second half and got a goal, then pressured the rest of the game. Earned a corner kick down 1 with a minute and change left, but down a man they brought the goalie up to press and after a good sequence, got caught and SHU played to the empty net. RU played well down a man in the second and we hung on.
