I don't think Harpers shot was a difficult one for him(he's a sure fire pro).He was wide open.What the hell was Dual doing not even close to him and why didn't Sha call a time out beforehand to set up the defense.
Didn't Rutgers call a timeout after the foul shots? It was just a bad defensive play, he got turned around instead of keeping Harper in front. Jenkins was also covering a guy who was barely at half court. Bad teams know how to lose.
Hes a 33% 3 point shooter. People are acting like he’s shooting 45% from 3 on the year. He shot much better today than he has all year from 3. His momentum was going towards the corner and not the basket from just in front of Jersey Mikes logo. I’d say it wasn’t an easy shot for him. He did a great job of squaring up. He made this after missing 2 free throws in the final minute
He shot better today because most of his 3's were wide open today. And that last shot wasn't easy but made easier because he was able to go down the court with ease. Not a knock on Harper, as when I saw him in that Las Vegas showcase he showed he should be a top 3 pick in next year's draft. Just he was able to set himself up for the shot the way he wanted to.
Just don't know why Dual was on him. Felt like Coleman or Dylan would have been a better choice to guard him.
Why didn't we deny him the ball? Why didn't we double team him? We needed to make someone else beat us. Even the parking lot attendants knew Harper was going to take the last shot.
I’ll admit after they called the foul that sent Coleman to the line, I just felt in the final 6 seconds we would have a foul called against us. Maybe that was just me, but if Dual was tight on him and Harper was savvy enough to create contact I was expecting it to be called.

Absolutely. Forget if we had anyone on the baseline. Should not have. Harper should not have been able to catch the ball. Or at least make things more difficult and have someone else beat you.

it was just bad defense by dual. really freaking bad. its clear sha didn't want the refs having any reason to call a foul. but dual was turned backwards almost immediately. he didnt even know where harper was. it was pathetic.

I watched the replay. Harper gave a head fake as though he was moving toward mid court. Dual bit on the fake. I wish he didn't (and I'll bet he wishes also) but it happened and Harper made the shot. Good for Harper and bad for us.
I'm a believer in always guarding the inbounder. Many coaches do not share that philosophy. Willard, for example, never guarded the inbounder on end of game plays. I guess Sha doesn't either.
In retrospect, sure we should have run a double team at Harper but that's because we didn't like the outcome. I wouldn't feel any better if he passed the ball to Bailey and he hit a 10 footer.

The team played as well as they can. They’re limited, what can you do. Sucks to have a bad team.
Whatever he did with Okorafor after benching him against OK State worked.
Sometimes you have to tip your hat. RU shot 53% for the game - which is a bit misleading because of how disruptive The Hall was defensively - because they have two NBA players out there making tough shots that you can't defend. Bailey and Harper were 17/28, 6/10 from 3.
Also RU was 13/28 from the FT line. But better than our 6/13!!
The refs were horrible. The 28-13 difference is FT is ridiculous. How many times do I have to say about these clown refs that a lot of these fouls should be no calls especially these 50 50 calls ,Play on . The continuity of the game suffers and the game becomes about the refs and the continuous stoppage of play.
Exactly. Whether or not it was an easy shot their best player got a great clean look to win the game and we let him have it.
Rutgers had no timeouts. How bout denying the inbound hoping to force a turnover. Trapping if they get it in. Playing for OT there is a losing strategy which of course was confirmed..
Stop. The coaching staff feel asleep. If he makes it with a hand or two in his face then you tip your cap to the kid and move on. But that wasn't the case. The easiest late game shot he'll ever take.
And how much confidence is there that we can get this program back on track and moving in the right direction.
IF we didnt guard the baseline we ahould have at least doubled harper. The inbound was too easy
There were only 2 guys who were going to take that shot. Ace or Harper. And we gave them an open shot out of a timeout. Makes 0 sense
I'm in the same boat. The last 3 halves SHU has played have showed improvement, and Okorafor and Dual looked much better.
We didn't give him an open shot, Dual got faked out of his jock. With 6.6 seconds, I was betting Harper was going to try to go end to end for a layup or a foul. I'd rather it ended with a 30 foot jumper than an easy layup or a foul shot ala Douby.
He was literally wide open. Dual had a hand up after the ball left Harper’s hand. As others alluded to there could’ve been a double team, etc.

He got himself literally wide open. I suspect Dual was told not to let Harper get by him, so he fell for a fake and got smoked. We didn't leave him unguarded. No such thing as an easy 30 footer. You couldn't make one in 20 tries.
there was a sequence where we were called for a travel back to back but the worst travel was uncalled on rutgers in between.
sounds like it was the assigned player on defense fell asleep. terrible analysis by yourself.
the game was TIED. a foul, a layup, anything would have won the game. there was enough time to go the paint from a long inbound pass. to limit the shot to a 3 is already what you want. thats because there wasn't any guy open because we didn't double team. good decision. the problem was that the guy guarding ball played like an imbecile. and the guy taking the shot showed why he's one of the top players in ncaa

I’m not a top 10 NBA pick. Harper is. Watch the play again and say he’s not wide open.
Jenkins is running next to dual and Harper providing no help but to cover a 25% career 3pt shooter 30 feet from the basket. Could’ve doubled, could’ve had help defense pre planned. Hard for a defender to stay in front of a guy running full speed full court length
all it took was one point to win. you cant leave other players open closer to the basket for an easy 2. absolutely cannot. making them beat you from 3 was the move. having an all time defensive breakdown was not.
Based on the responses here. Sha can do no wrong and every coach you listed would’ve had 1 on 1 defense against the guy who is a top 10 pick

if sha doubles and they throw a pass to a guy open at the elbow or worse a layup, how would you react? right....
