STORRS, CONN. – Freshman
Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had a team-high 14 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at No. 6 Connecticut, 96-36, in Gampel Pavilion on Sunday
Even for a team that has become accustomed to winning, emotions were high for Connecticut as Paige Bueckers surpassed 2,000 career points and Aubrey Griffin made her return from a torn ACL after missing well over a year. Add in the fact that the Huskies hadn't played at Gampel Pavilion since Dec. 3, and it was the perfect storm against the Pirates.
Eads had 14 points with four rebounds and four steals. Junior
Messiah Hunter (Hopewell, Va.) matched her career-high with seven points to go with three rebounds.
Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had eight points and a team-best six rebounds.
THE STORY:
Hunter drained a three-pointer to open the scoring for Seton Hall, but the Huskies responded with a 14-2 run to grab a commanding 18-5 lead with 4:49 left in the first quarter. A made jumper by Eads temporarily halted Connecticut's momentum, but the Huskies answered with an 8-0 run to end the quarter. UConn held a 26-7 lead after the first 10 minutes as the Pirates were only 3-for-18 from the field.
