SHU women’s BBall

I think we have to give The Hall gals a pass here. . Sure, we'd like to be way closer than that outcome of that game. What you notice is that these elite programs have more size and athletic players. No way SHU can compete with these schools. Maybe they can keep the score more respectable when they play at Walsh. Seton Hall are not striving for the Final 4 any time soon. It would be great if they can compile some wins and get a bid. Not impossible.

Women are having a great year so far, beat Marquette away for the first time in conference play. Started the conference 4-0, best start in conference play, until losing to Creighton at home.

Earning a bid is going to be very difficult. Our NET is at 64 (which doesn't include today's game) and nine of our 13 wins are Q4.

The Big East is a mediocre league and we've already lost to the conference's two best teams -- one of them by 60 points. We've lost to three top teams in UConn, USC and LSU by an average of 40 points. Other than rematches with UConn and Creighton, there aren't many opportunities for quality wins.

Ultimately, landing an invite may come down to the committee ignoring us being non-competitive against quality opponents.

Humiliating. Only thing worse: had it been on TV AND at our band box. UCONN starters only played half the game. Then, none of our starters would make the UCONN team.

UConn players aggressive D, shouted them up and never let them get comfortable.
CL: Watching the Chiefs game, I wondered if Paige had not been so frequently injured, would she have been the Caitlin Clark?
I don't think so. Really impressed by the way Caitlin carries herself. Like Paige a lot, too, but don't see her as quite as natural as Caitlin. Began to notice this with her appearance last spring on SNL. She absolutely killed it.

On another note: do you think Geno sees Chen as a version of Muhl? Chen is a nice player and certainly fits the UCONN mold, but I expected her to be more like the Fairfield transfer Lopez-Senechal.

Not many teams have played #4, 5 and 6. The scoring margins in the losses will hurt them. They must keep the UConn home game somewhat respectable. Having said that if they can go 7-4 the rest of the way and win 2 BE Tournament games they will be squarely on The Bubble. They will have 22 wins on Selection Sunday. BigEast is down, but not too many mid majors have UConn in their league.. I agree the scenario I presented may not be enough. Also, Jada and Faith need more help down the stretch.

Pirates Fall at No. 6 Connecticut

STORRS, CONN. – Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had a team-high 14 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at No. 6 Connecticut, 96-36, in Gampel Pavilion on Sunday

Even for a team that has become accustomed to winning, emotions were high for Connecticut as Paige Bueckers surpassed 2,000 career points and Aubrey Griffin made her return from a torn ACL after missing well over a year. Add in the fact that the Huskies hadn't played at Gampel Pavilion since Dec. 3, and it was the perfect storm against the Pirates.

Eads had 14 points with four rebounds and four steals. Junior Messiah Hunter (Hopewell, Va.) matched her career-high with seven points to go with three rebounds. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had eight points and a team-best six rebounds.

THE STORY:
Hunter drained a three-pointer to open the scoring for Seton Hall, but the Huskies responded with a 14-2 run to grab a commanding 18-5 lead with 4:49 left in the first quarter. A made jumper by Eads temporarily halted Connecticut's momentum, but the Huskies answered with an 8-0 run to end the quarter. UConn held a 26-7 lead after the first 10 minutes as the Pirates were only 3-for-18 from the field.

Graduate student Yaya Lops (Stamford, Conn.) hit a three-pointer with 7:50 left before halftime to cut The Hall's deficit to 32-14, but Connecticut bounced back with a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Huskies took a 56-16 lead into the break. The Pirates shot just 20.6 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to 61.8 percent for UConn.

THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 14-for-62 (22.6%) from the floor for the game, while Connecticut was 35-for-62 (56.5%). The Hall was 4-for-26 (15.4%) from three-point range, while the Huskies were 17-for-32 (53.1%).
  • Eads had a team-high 14 points to go with four rebounds and four steals.
  • The Hall out-rebounded Connecticut, 46-to-30, although the Pirates had an 11-to-10 edge on the offensive glass.
  • Hunter had seven points to go with three rebounds.
  • Seton Hall was 4-for-4 (100%) from the free-throw line, while Connecticut was 9-for-13 (69.2%).
  • Masonius had eight points and a team-best six rebounds.
  • Seton Hall forced 13 turnovers, while the Huskies forced 19. UConn had a 27-to-11 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
THE NOTES:
  • Seton Hall falls to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in BIG EAST play, while Connecticut improves to 17-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference play.
  • The Hall is now 60-10 all-time against the Huskies and has lost 40 games in a row in the series.
  • It's only the fourth time this season in 18 games that Seton Hall's opponent has forced more turnovers.
UP NEXT:
Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, January 25 when it returns to historic Walsh Gymnasium to take on local BIG EAST rival St. John's. Tip time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available for FloCollege subscribers. As always, 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net will also carry the contest.

I think UConn could have done them to them every time they play but the Halls record got them ready to play the game. Losing by that much is a sign of respect in my opinion.

They are very different people, though both are immensely talented. Clark is the one and only Caitlin Clark and Paige is the only Paige Bueckers. ( I will say when both were completely healthy Paige won player of the year.) I do look forward to seeing them both in the WNBA with all the other great guards out there, including Fudd, Miles and Watkins. I think it's going to elevate the pace and quality of play in the WNBA.

I don't see the comparison Muhl and Chen at all. Nika was a world-class defensive stopper in college. That isn't Chen's skill set. On the other hand Chen has a much stronger offensive game.

Seton Hall is a high major.
