Pitino

Kurtz may not like hoops, but I'm sure subconsciously seeing his alma mater's name doing well in basketball which makes the brand "SETON HALL" make him smile as it gives his degree more name
could also be the other direction. need to donate money to prevent SHU hoops from being a stain on the university.

hey I tried to get his email to speak to him as a student raised by a single mother letting him know how much SHU helped me in my life but I wasn't given it so
Are you that low IQ that you can't find his email on our own? Do you think he gives a rats ass about you or anyone's opinion on Seton Hall hoops? He clearly has 0 interest. He has his own billions comical people on here keep saying he should donate. If anyone tried to tell me what to do with my money, I would slap them in the mouth. Also people need to stop crying about St. Johns and Repole, if shoe were on other foot we would all be very happy right. Piartecrew full of beta, victim mentality cry babies lately, becoming unbearable.

They had enough money to build a practice facility so they aren’t drawing completely dead. The problem is that 90% of this board knew NIL was the wave of the future, not facilities, and the school didn’t seem to realize it. They bucked NIL until the very last minute.

They need to sit down and find an edge with rev sharing. I don’t know what that edge is, but that’s where their brains need to be.
They didn't have enough money to pay for the practice facility. 50% is covered by a bond (debt) with the remaining covered/reimbursed by donors. That tells me that we completely tapped our donor base and still needed to take on significant debt to make that happen.

Sounds like the well is tapped for the foreseeable future.

Not really. It means we smartly financed the facility construction and raised money for it and other things.

I doubt it sadly. Don’t think that makes him smile.

Say what you want about Pitino but like him or not the man is a great coach. His statement about Seton Hall are true. The game is now all about money & if we want to compete we must come up with funding or be buried in the league's basement. Let me say this about our current tea: I have been following SHU hoops for over 50 years and this is the worst shooting team I have seen over that period of time. It's time for the administration to wake up and decide if we want to be competitive or not.

And Sha had a show clause against him before we hired him --- from his time at SHU!
No high moral ground. Just well reported facts about the FBI investigation, pay-to-play schemes with Brian Bowen, his firing, Louisville having to vacate one its 2 championships. Details about his transgressions are pretty hilarious, like the strippers brought to the Louisville men's basketball dorm, and a 15-second transgression with Coach Pitino on a table in an Italian restaurant.

Hey, everyone deserves redemption, right? HOF coach who said he would never leave Iona, he was going to retire there. LOL. Same line at many of Pitino's stops, be it Kentucky, the Celtics or the Knicks.

I guess Sha has to kiss his ring since Sha comes from the Willard/Pitino coaching tree - Willard was Pitino's ball boy at the Knicks, Willard's dad worked with Rick as an assistant at the Knick's and at the University of Kentucky.

We are not the lowest in the league
Pitino kicked our ass on the court and then immediately belittled us in the media. He’s probably texting Coleman right now. Savage.
Totally agree. Pitino took his get out of jail card from Iona after his shameful exit from the Cards and publicly vowed he'd retire at the Gaels. But as soon as an "independent panel" made it acceptable for Fr. Shanley and the holy fathers to accept him at the Johnnies, he bid farewell and strapped his bootie to Repole so he could buy a team legally this time and resurrect both his and St. John's reputation. Repole made sure he had his big purse ready once Anderson was gone and Rick was in. Quid pro quo.

Pitino is a very good coach, but this does not undo everything else unseemly.

I actually don't disagree, but that doesn't mean both things aren't true. If we are able to raise money so easily, why stop at 50%? What other things?

The bond was taken out because, very simply IMO, we couldn't afford to foot the bill otherwise with the limited donors and giving we have. They get full credit for making the move on this at a time when rates were attractive. That said, they very clearly used up and ran our donor base dry because our NIL has been a disaster.

I think you have to "give to get" so to speak. Honest question (I don't know the answer), but is Seton Hall even a CrowdStrike customer? They should be.

I remember Kurtz vaguely (we were both accounting majors). IIRC, he was pretty computer savvy prior to Seton Hall, that's what helped him get into cybersecurity. It really wasn't anything he got out of Seton Hall that I can tell.

But what I will say, if he's a racer (as I was at one point), he surely has some kind of ego. Someone else mentioned here - name a building after him, make it a big deal. Promote him / CrowdStrike - they had a tough run recently. Do something - don't just ask for the handout. The relationship here is symbiotic.

I'm reminded of the scene in The Godfather, when Bonasera goes to ask Don Corleone a favor. Don Corleone asks why is he asking for this when he never invited to his house for a cup of coffee.

IMHO, this scene sums it up.

Yes - I said that. He was already computer savvy, he got into cybersecurity almost by accident (his employer put him on a security project).

I think it’s hilarious this guy’s name is mentioned so much on these boards. And Repole’s for that matter. Wild stuff.
Unfortunately that’s the reality of the current landscape. I’m sure there have to be others, the founder of Synchronoss is a Seton Hall grad.

A great coach with a huge ego said if we had close to what SJ offered, he stayed cause he loved SHU and Sha. Not sure if we really know that to be true but that puts things in a more positive light than he needed to put them.

Bob Brennan was often mentioned back in the old days. Why not mention the guy who finances SJU. I wonder if RP and him had am agreement that he would write the checks of Ricky came aboard? If I was a coach changing jobs today I think reaching out to the very rich alums to see if their checkbook was available makes sense.

How do you know they haven’t offered him all of that?

I don’t, I sort of prefaced the post that way.
It’s possible they haven’t …..that’s the whole point of all of this stuff. None of us do. I just hope the important people have a clue. Unfortunately we don’t know that, either.
