They look like an NC contender. Rick taught them how to shoot 3s last week.

have a family dinner tonight so not at the game. great - high level - game

And anyone who still doesn’t think St. John’s is the best team in the conference…. You are in denial.

That’s a helluva team
I had thought outside shooting would be their weakness.

But I’ll tell you what…Pitino has them playing his ball.

And that “ball” makes final fours.

Honestly…wouldn’t be surprised to see them there

There’s a reason Pitino is in the HOF. Repole’s money is important, but there’s not a better coach in the nation right now.

If Rick does win the National Championship does he entertain leaving for another team either college or pros or does he stay in the Big East like Jay Wright or Calhoun.

He talks so much and says so many things who knows. He said the same about Iona.

But he seems to be at peace being back in NYC and having the chance to do this again. He's selling out the Garden, he's going to have a powerhouse legacy at St. John's, he's got constant NIL, IDK why he'd want to go Bloomington.

Pitino is the perfect face for the new era of college hoops. Five different schools and way too old to still be doing it. A move to Bloomington would be a fitting end to his career.

I worry about 3 pt shooting and foul issues
I also worry they look this good because of how down the Big East is.

Don't get me wrong, they look like a second weekend tournament team but not sure if I am ready to put them up there with Auburn & Duke as the top contenders. And I could really see them get stuck in a loaded bracket, as a FU to the Big East.

I was thinking today. Would he jump to a UNC? Obviously.amazing program but if u win over NYC and MSG do u need UNC. Has the ability to stay on top of the BE til he retires

Pitino is so good he'd even win 8-9 games in this Big East with this Seton Hall roster. Coaching matters.
Agreed. Just look at what he’s done with Richmond. Hes gotten more effort out of Kadary in 1 year than Sha, Willard, or Boheim did the previous 4.

Wanted to say this, but didn’t want to sound like I was downplaying St John’s season.

Big East is very pressed to get out of the first weekend in the tourney in my opinion. SEC and Big 12 are gonna roll over most others

He is very close with Mike Repole. He ain’t going anywhere

Repole right behind him next to bench today.

Agree with you. They were picked 5th preseason for a reason. This is a “whole is better than the parts” thing with Pitino.

Not downplaying their season which has been insanely good and a huge story nationally. They’ve taken over NY which is impossible for a college sports team.

But they and the other top of the BE aren’t on that upper level with the top SEC/Big 12 schools and Duke.

I do think for all the BE schools that dance the matchups will be a huge factor more than ever. Like some the Houston-Sampson teams or Huggins teams that couldn’t shoot well, SJU’s defense, tenacity and how hard they play can be a buzz saw with the right matchups. And be impacted by a tighter whistle or offset by one night of great shooting.

Think Marquette, Creighton and UConn are in a similar boat. Can see them winning some games but could also see early exits.

They are not going to win the National Championship but SJU emergence does show the power of a great coach and NIL $$$.

Silver lining in this one for Uconn is that Karaban looked more like Karaban and was the driving force to cut that lead to single digits in the second half before SJU took control again.

What’s wild is that I don’t think Uconn even played that badly. It wasn’t like their performance at the Rock. They had 16 assists. Equaled them in rebounds. Ain’t get killed on the offensive glass. Forced some turnovers. The two headed monster at Center was pretty darn productive. They didn’t shoot it as well from 3 but you knew SJU was going to try to take that away.

the team that played today is an nc contender imo
