Spring Gut Punch Again

"... agents have convinced Delgado he will be drafted."

These agents know more than all the scouts and the people who didn't event invite Delgado to the combine?

So many red flags.

It makes this so much harder to swallow than iw's decision. IW knew what he was accepting and we had to deal with that. Angel's being sold the idea of something that isn't realistic and is going to be left disappointed.

Message for college players- Listen to NBA Scouts/ Do Not listen to agents. They are not truthful and do not have your best interest. ( Someone stated- if you are a Freshman, Soph., Junior and Not invited to the NBA combine, then you need to run back to college.)

NBA scouts lie even more than agents.

What does he lose to stay another year? Everything to gain - degree, senior year with great teammates, make history with school that helped develop you. Why can't we have a kid like Dunn - wanted to stay and get his degree even though he was a projected lottery pick as a junior and his own coach was worried about a reinjury if he returned as a senior. This one stings!

IW was/is an NBA player and had the skill set. Delgado does not. Love Angel but he's a 1 trick pony and he's not Dennis Rodman and the NBA "ain't college"... It's apples and oranges.

It's also important to note that if Delgado has been told he's going to get a guaranteed contract (regardless of the league) worth millions then it's good move.

Just ridiculous. No one is picking this guy in Round 1. He may not even get drafted. This is the deepest draft in like 10 years.

If he doesn't sign with an agent, keeps his name in the draft and is not drafted, he can return to school, right? (Like Michigan player) Or did/will Delgado sign or is he about to with an agent? I think he needs to withdraw name by May 24 to be able to return to school.

ANN ARBOR -- Moritz Wagner, Michigan's ever-emerging sophomore big man from Germany, has submitted his papers for early entry to the 2017 NBA Draft.

Wagner announced he'll test the NBA waters on Monday, but will not sign with an agent.

We are so unlucky. You have players in our league with legitimate NBA potential returning to school (i.e. Brunson) and our best player leaves us to play euro ball. Don't get me wrong, it's his life and he can do what he wants but as a fan it sucks to see your best player leave when he has 0% chance of sniffing an NBA roster next year.

Guaranteed contract worth millions?? HA, that is for 1st Rounders which he certainly is not. He will be lucky to get drafted.

More salt in wounds - from Adam Zagoria:

NBA scout on what if Delgado stayed at Seton Hall: 'First round if he keeps improving.'
I pray that Angel has a long and successful career but I'm not buying that. Top NBA talent (1st round talent) is recognized very early on.

1) how many seniors are drafted in the first round? - very very few (e.g. 4 in 2016 and 2015)
2) of the handful of seniors who are drafted in the first round how many weren't considered top 100 prospects at the end of their junior year? None. That type of growth in draft stock is unheard of. It doesn't exist.

While I agree that it stings, Delgado has been a great ambassador for SHU. No matter where he's playing next season, that will remain the case.

That said, the risk of injury, especially to a big man, is a very real threat. How many categories did Delgado lead the country in last year? Tough to go out any higher, individually at least, than that. Even if he plays overseas, having those numbers will allow him to sign a much stronger contract than if he came back and got hurt.

And next spring Nzei will leave as a graduate senior and transfer to a school that's a lock to get to the Tourney. It's not SH or the staff it's what has become a ritual in college BB and each year the number increases of that type of transfer occurring.

He risks a career ending injury.. He's not dumb whatever he makes this year wherever he ends up will take his family out of poverty. He doesn't want to miss that chance.. Look at the minutes he would have been asked to play this year.. Good chance he can get injured.

Nzei is a different kind of person than Angel. He will probably stay with us all 4 years.

Brunson and Bridges are borderline first round picks and are returning to school. It's all about getting the proper advice and having the right mindset. Delgado is getting HORRIFIC advice. His advice should've been to drop some lb's and try to diversify his game a bit. He's too undersized so he needs to lose some weight so he can step away from the paint or to at least the outer fringes of the paint. Next year's draft STINKS. With some improvements to his body it's not impossible he could've slid into the late first next year. He definitely would've gotten draft in what looks to be the worst draft since the Bennett draft.

Probably $150k-$250k, a year of a career that typically ends around 31-34, and avoid risk of injury.

Unless I'm mistaken any player with professional expectations has insurance that pays out should they get hurt so the injury factor is less of an issue. Maybe that is only for more highly regarded players and not questionable NBA prospects?
