QUEENS, N.Y. (May 22, 2017) – The St. John’s men’s basketball team will return to Mohegan Sun Arena next season to participate in the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase on December 20. The Red Storm will face off against Saint Joseph’s in the first game of a doubleheader that also features Providence and Houston.

“We are thrilled to be part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase at Mohegan Sun,” said St. John’s Head Coach and two-time Hall of Fame inductee Chris Mullin. “It’s another competitive neutral site event on our schedule, held at a great basketball venue, that will get our team ready for BIG EAST play. The Basketball Hall of Fame always hosts top-notch events, so we are excited to return to Mohegan Sun Arena for the second time in the last three years.”

St. John’s owns a 44-12 all-time record in its series with Saint Joseph’s dating back to 1919. The Johnnies have prevailed in the last eight games with the Hawks, including a 63-61 triumph in their most recent meeting in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament.

“The Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase is sure to be a wonderful event, featuring storied collegiate programs and a beautiful venue,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. “Mohegan Sun continues to be a tremendous partner and outstanding venue for the teams and fans alike and we look forward to a great day of basketball this holiday season.”

St. John’s aims to build upon one of the nation’s best turnarounds last season, which featured a six-win improvement in conference play with one of the most inexperienced rosters in Division I. One of the BIG EAST’s top scoring trios, Shamorie Ponds (17.4 ppg), Marcus LoVett (15.9 ppg) and Bashir Ahmed (13.4 ppg), are back with a year of Division I experience under their belts and will be joined by highly-touted first-year Johnnies Marvin Clark Jr. and Justin Simon, who sat out last season per NCAA transfer requirements. In addition, the Red Storm also welcomes back the BIG EAST’s top shot blockers, Tariq Owens and Kassoum Yakwe, along with fellow upperclassmen Federico Mussini and Amar Alibegovic.

General public tickets will go on sale Friday, September 8 at 10 a.m. eastern via all Ticketmaster outlets and the Mohegan Sun Arena box office. Game time, television details and an exclusive pre-sale opportunity for participating schools will be released at a later date.
