Who on St Johns thought it would be a good idea to get into a 3 point shooting contest with Nova??? HELLO--St Johns is worse than we are at shooting the 3 & they took 37 attempts! We 're at 29% from deep & Pitino's crew is at a whopping 23%. Nova leads the BE at 39.4%. Am I missing something here???

St. John’s has a gaudy record but their 3-point shooting (29%) and free throw shooting (68%) is major chink in the armor. In a single elimination tournament that could screw you.

Also, I don’t know why more teams don’t zone them to death. That’s what Cooley did and he had tremendous success. In my opinion he showed everyone the model how to beat them but everyone ignored.

The travel by longinho was a horrible miss by the refs. At moments last night Kadary was great and at other times he was missing in action. They need him to be locked in and not taking chunks of the game off

Cooley lost twice to St. John’s and by 25 points at home. Was down 31 in first half of last game.

What is your definition of “tremendous success”?

Another horrible miss was someone on St. John's (forget who) stepping on the baseline under the basket with about 6 minutes left in the game and no one caught it. They wound up scoring on the possession. It all comes out in the wash. Take the L.

I actually think St Johns is overrated and so is the BE. No NCAA title this year and NO final 4 or 8 for any of the teams.
You are acting like we are the Big Ten lol.

But I tend to agree. The SEC teams are loaded but maybe SJU can stop them. I dont doubt Uconn with a full roster. CU and MQ, who knows.

League needs Nova or X to keep stacking wins here so there is at least a chance of getting more than 4 teams.

Unless they go on a major run, I don't think X or Nova deserve a bid. The field is quite deep this year. I changed channels a lot last night & caught parts of some very entertaining games. Az State went to 2OT with TxTech, atmosphere was insane. On the other extreme. ND at BC also went to 2OT. Crowd at Conte looked like a HS Freshman game. They are drawing even less than we are. What a shame.

Hear you.

Nova has beaten Uconn and SJU at home, so both of those W's will hold up. Shame they couldn't get the W v. Creighton. As I recall posted here, it was a miracle bank in 3 by Ashworth that won the game for Creighton. If Nova wins that one too, maybe the resume looks a bit different with the Cincy OOC (though they do have some bad losses). They will have Marquette at home and Uconn on the road. If they split those and win out the rest, they will get to 20 Wins and 13 in the league. I don't know where the metrics will put them in that scenario, but maybe in a similar bucket to us/SJU/Prov last year.

My guess is that teams have zoned them. But as you know a major pitfall with the zone is how it can hurt you on the glass and they are a very good offensive rebounding team. So I'd bet when teams did it in the past that was probably an issue for the opposition.

If a team packs it in at this level, you almost have to take 3s if they are wide open.

Judging from the box score, last night was more of a half court game, which is what Nova wants (or really anyone wants) against SJU. Nova only had 11 TOs which is good for a team against SJU.

No Smith for SJU probably hurt their ability to get in transition too. Because he is an absolute blur in the open court and ignites that out of the half court.

Yeah this guy Pitino is no match for Kyle Neptune. He should retire 😉
Ball should have been Kadary's hands in last nine seconds to drive, pull-up, dish, or get fouled. Seems that the Hall of Fame couch thought other wise; maybe Neptune didn't allow it to happen. Bottom line: end-of-the-game---nod to Neptune: period.

1st game.

Tremendous success in the sense that a vastly inferior team was leading on the road for 80% of the game. Held St. Johns to 35% shooting, etc. The defensive game plan was clearly zone them - and it was extremely successful.

If Dixon didnt pull that three out of his ass they dont win. I have a terrific 6'9 player in a close game and he stays outside the three point line. I dont applaud that.

I agree about Kadary. One thing we have learned, hKR taking time off mid game was not cause of Sha. He even does it with Jesus, I mean Pitino.
