One look at Myles Carter would be enough to attract a college coach's attention.
The sculpted 6-foot-8 Carter, who was more of a defender and rebounder than a scorer at St. Rita, was recruited by numerous schools before committing to Seton Hall on Monday.
The fourth St. Rita senior headed to a Division I program, Carter ultimately chose the New Jersey school over DePaul, Memphis, Virginia Commonwealth and Cleveland State, he said.
Seton Hall (16-15, 6-12 Big East in 2014-15) has just one proven big man returning next season.
"Coach (Kevin) Willard was telling me they want me to be an impact player from the start," said Carter, who averaged six points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots this season. "I've got to be prepared. I've got to work on my post game and free throws and running more to get accustomed to what it's going to be like."
Carter has the benefit of experiencing high-level games - and practices - at St. Rita, which went 26-4 and lost to Simeon in the Class 4A Eisenhower Sectional final.
Small forward Charles Matthews is heading to Kentucky, while guards Kain Harris and Armani Chaney signed with Tulane and Tennessee State.
"They pushed me to be better every day," Carter said.
While assistant coach Billy Garrett Sr. was DePaul's primary recruiter, Carter said head coach Oliver Purnell's resignation made it difficult for him to choose the Blue Demons.
"I'm not going to say it didn't," Carter said. "It played a small part, but I don't want to put it as the reason I didn't go there. Even with Coach Purnell there, I still would have picked Seton Hall."
