The rag had nothing this am on SHUs win over Georgia. I guess they too busy covering mediocrity and turmoil over at RU. UNBELIEVABLE.

what's worse is there is not even a game story on NJ.com. Jeremy Schneider typically covers SHU hoops for NJ Advanced Media. Nothing to be found online.

I read that ru's third string center had a hangnail.

We all have to write of the Star-Ledger. They appear to think Rutgers is the only college sports team worth covering. At least we know they can't avoid our game next Saturday, lol!

Halldan reports that there were entirely four questions asked in the presser after the game, two by himself. So - no quotes, no insight, no repartee, no relationship, no story.

Frankly, cannot blame the Star-Loser on this. My view is that the battle lines have been sufficiently drawn between the press and coach talks-a-lot. It is what it is. I expect this to continue.

We all pretty much know that communications of any kind are the weakest tool in his toolbox. It will not change.

So - let's focus on the winning. Honestly, did not think they could do it, but in the second half, worked harder and more together. They earned it.

John Calipari could be coaching Seton Hall and it would not matter. The Ledger has checked out... Look at how they cover the Devils. Their home game against Montreal got about three paragraphs (if that) on Saturday. Can't blame Kevin Willard for that. They just don't care anymore. They might as well throw in the towel and make it online only.

Told you guys in another thread they had no one at the game.

Pitiful.

First off I noted that there were not a lot of media in the room. I also noted the short session was not Willard's fault as only Jerry Carino and I stepped up to ask questions.

No excuse for the Ledger not to cover this game. And no fault of Willard's that the media session was a short one.

Just didn't want the impression that I was criticizing Willard in the post game. He was asked 4 questions, answered them all in detail and then left when no one else said anything more.

Truthfully Jerry and I had more questions but neither of us wanted to dominate the session and we both expected others to query Willard before we said more. But it didn't happen and Willard walked away at that point.

Pitiful seems like a very strong and unnecessary word to use.
Respectfully. what would you call it?

Big East team vs an SEC team on a Saturday night at the Rock and the biggest newspaper in the state doesn't see the need to send anyone, even an independent reporter to cover the game.

Dan, you mentioned there were younger guys in the room. Who are they - Setonian staff and your best pal at the SOJ site? With only 2 other guys asking questions, that's an opportunity for them to stick their nose in there even if it's to lob softballs.

LOL - I'd call it CONTEXT.

Given your first sentence (you TOLD us stuff in another thread), the second sentence comes across as saying that we your readers are pitiful! The second sentence most logically refers back to the object of the first sentence.

However, you have supplied context - the shift in your focus is to the importance of the game - and your comment is now understood to mean "pitiful" that it was not covered.

Now we're all clear.

And of course - I agree with you.

WSOU is always there. But a few 'usuals' were not.

There were a lot of younger guys in the room that I did not recognize. My guess is that they were from the school (Setonian?) or were guys with their own media sites.

You're killing me big guy. LOL

Here's the post....

You got it Dan - my reading skills surely suck this morning, I'll go do some clean up aground the house as my penance LOL!

Every day the Ledger becomes more and more irrelevant especially when it concerns the local colleges other then RU . The classic example of how irrelevant its become is that two years ago every one of the 9 houses near us all use to get the Ledger delivered . Today none of us do and the reason is its continuing decline in content and rising costs .

It's painfully obvious that the Ledger has absolutely no interest in covering hig major Division 1 sports. The best thing you can do, if you haven't already, is cancel this rag. Such a once great paper has become nothing more than an expensive fish wrapper!

That's insulting to the fish!

It's truly sad that a newspaper that is about 5 miles from SHU can't even include an AP paragraph on the game. I recently moved from Union to Monmouth county and now get the APP and the Ledger on Sunday.

Thanks to Jerry Carino fans can enjoy their Taylor Ham and egg sandwich while reading the Sunday paper.

Enjoy a cheese hammer - fried in butter Taylor ham, melted Velvita cheese on top on a hard roll. Heaven!

The Ledger has been dying a slow death for years. Many other dailies have suffered the same fate. They are not without sin for their editorial policies, but I take no joy in their decline. Many good people there have lost their jobs, several SHU alumni and friends of mine among them. It's only a question of time before the end is upon them. Very sad.

Does anyone care that you can't rent a video from Blockbuster anymore? Content has left the print media...the NSL is pretty much dead.

Talk about a newspaper that is a day late and a dollar short. Was at my car dealership this morning getting a regularly scheduling maintenance done and picked up a copy of the Ledger and there was a story about our Saturday game and a picture . See all you have to do to read about our games is wait a couple of days to do so.

Chris Iseman had a nice article in the Record with quotes from the kids and the coach. I guess most of this board lives in the central part of the state, because the Record covers northern NJ.

The Record still does a decent job of covering Seton Hall (and the Devils as well). I recently moved from Bergen County to Essex County, and I am still able to get it delivered. I believe the Record is available in Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Hudson and Essex counties/

1996 you are spot on there. The Record is the newspaper for all of NJ even if it part of Northern NJ. You can even get the Record at the shore.
