THE ALL TIME GREATEST PLAYER FOR EACH MLB TEAM

Surprised former SH player Chuck "the Rifleman" Connors wasn't named to an all time team. Guess finishing behind Bart Maverick did him in. At least he beat Brett (Maverick).

Tony Lazzeri vs Robinson Cano at 2B would be difficult to settle.

Lazzeri was part of the 1927 Murderer's Row team with Ruth and Gehrig 2 of the 4 best Yankees of all time.

Anyone consider putting DiMaggio over Ruth as the greatest Yankee? DiMaggio was a far more complete ball player. He also batted right handed in Yankee Stadium which lowered his home run production while the short right field fence certainly helped Ruth's home run numbers.

Ruth has the sickest stats ever compiled. He at one time held the most scoreless innings pitched in the World Series up until Whitey Ford broke it.
I think Ruth had the most consecutive wins against the Yankees until I think Ted Higuiera broke it. Ruth stole home 10 times during his career. As Ty Cobb once said, "He moves pretty good for a fat man."

As a Red Sox fan (who was not alive to see ted williams play) I am not sure how you don't choose Big Papi here. I get that Williams was an all time great player, and also played the field which ortiz did not.

BUT with everything Ortiz has done for the Red Sox AND the city of Boston, he is unequivocally the greatest player in their franchises history

Its not even close in my opinion. Papi was great hitter, but Williams is considered the best hitter by most people. See below, Williams stats dwarf Papi in most categories, and remember Williams missed many of his prime years serving in WW2 and then again in Korean War.

You are right, williams is the better player. Looking at the numbers now i can see how an argument can be made.

I just think ortiz accomplished more. He was an extremely clutch hitter and was a big part of breaking the curse and winning 3 world series. 1 of which was after the boston marathon bombing that meant a lot to the city.

I got a chuckle out of the comments that Ortiz is the all time best Red Sox player.

To be truthful I doubt many of our readers ever saw Williams play and of course people will have their biases to what they have only seen.

Ortiz was a great player, no doubt. But he's not even in the class of Ted Williams and that's not a knock on Ortiz. Few players could come close to matching his stats. One of the greatest pure hitters the game has ever seen. Maybe the best.

Dan, if you were the manager of that Yankee team your golf game would improve. Imagine, write out the line-up card before fielding and batting practice, get in your car go across the bridge and hit the links getting back to the dugout as the game is ending in yet another win.
