Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Tigers: Seton Hall leads, 13-7
Last Meeting: Seton Hall 70, Princeton 60 (F) – December 11, 2021

SCOUTING PRINCETON
Friday's contest will be the 21st meeting in the history of Seton Hall and Princeton with the Pirates owning a 13-7 advantage in the prior 20 meetings. Last season, the Pirates snapped Princeton's 21-game home win streak with a thrilling 70-60 victory at Jadwin Gym. The Hall has now won two of the last three meetings against the Tigers.

Princeton is coming off another excellent season that finished with a 25-5 overall record and a perfect 14-0 mark in Ivy League play. The Tigers won their third consecutive conference title and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the marquee event, they upset No. 6 Kentucky before falling by only one point to No. 3 Indiana in the second round.

This year, the Tigers were again picked as the favorites to win the Ivy League per its preseason coaches' poll. They also opened the season ranked No. 24 in the AP Poll and No. 25 in the WBCA Poll. Junior Ellie Mitchell, the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year returns, as does Julia Cunningham and Grace Stone, both All-Ivy League selections a year ago.

Princeton opened the 2022-23 season with a convincing 18-point victory over Temple on Monday. On Friday, they hosted BIG EAST rival Villanova and fell, 69-59, despite 18 points from Cunningham and 17 more from Stone.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will play its second-straight game against a top Ivy League opponent when it welcomes Columbia to Walsh Gym on Thursday, Nov. 17. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had a season-high 25 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, a 62-58 loss to Princeton on Monday.

The Pirates out-shot Princeton by a large margin, 42.6% to only 29.6%, but The Hall committed 21 turnovers and was beaten on the glass, particularly down the stretch. The Tigers grabbed three offensive rebounds in the final minute as the Pirates were trying to rally.

Park-Lane played all 40 minutes and had a game-high 25 points on 9-for-21 shooting. Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) was a third Pirate to reach double-figures in scoring. She had 10 points.

THE STORY:
The Hall went on an 8-0 run to grab an early 8-2 lead, but Princeton bounced back with three-pointers on three straight possessions to take an 11-8 advantage with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

A made three-pointer by Hagans gave The Hall a 21-17 lead, but Princeton responded with a 10-2 run to jump ahead, 27-23, with 3:04 left before halftime. A three-pointer late in the half by Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) enabled The Hall to cut its deficit to just 29-28 at the break.

Down 54-46, the Pirates started clawing back. A three-pointer by Hagans cut The Hall's deficit to five, and three minutes later, a driving layup by Park-Lane cut the Tiger lead to 55-52 with 3:02 remaining in the game. With the score the same, a potential game-tying three-pointer by Park-Lane rimmed out with 2:11 left, and then with 1:44 to go, Cooks took a shot at tying the game, but it too missed the mark. The Pirates did a good job in the final minute of fouling to prolong the game and get additional possessions, but Princeton came up with key offensive rebounds to keep the ball.

THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 23-for-54 (42.6%) from the floor for the game, while Princeton was 21-for-71 (29.6%). The Hall was 6-for-15 (40.0%) from three-point range, while the Tigers were 5-for-21 (23.8%).
