SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team dropped a high-scoring affair to DePaul by a score of 94-85 on Friday at Walsh Gym. The contest was The Hall's Seton Hall vs. Cancer pink game presented by RWJ Barnabas.

Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) led four Pirate scorers in double-figures with 21 points in the setback, also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and snaring three steals. The Pirates showed great resolve throughout the game and cut double-digit deficits down to one point twice in the second half. The Hall was never able to re-take the lead, however, as DePaul made clutch late plays down the stretch to close out the win and earn a split of the regular season series.

BIG EAST-leading scorer Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) finished with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting for the Pirates, despite exiting the game with 2:29 to play in the third quarter. Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) and Inja Butina (Zagreb, Croatia) added 16 and 11 points, respectively, to round out the Seton Hall scorers in double-figures.

How it Happened
The Pirates played a strong opening quarter and took a 19-14 lead after one, but DePaul answered by scoring the first 10 points of the second frame to take a five-point advantage. The Blue Demons went on to extend their lead to 40-28 with a minute to play in the first half. The Hall answered, using an 8-0 spurt that included a Jimenez 3-pointer and five-straight points from Kaela Hilaire (Queens, N.Y.) to cut the SHU deficit to 40-36 at the half.

The Hall got within a point at 42-41 early in the third quarter via a three-point play from Elmore, but again DePaul pushed back and stretched its lead to double-digits. A 3-pointer for DPU's Lexi Held moments after Samuels left the game gave the Blue Demons a 63-52 lead, but Elmore answered emphatically by scoring the next four baskets of the game to help slim the margin to 66-60 after three.

Elmore again got the Pirates within a point by scoring four-straight point and cutting the DPU lead to 69-68 with 7:28 to play. The Blue Demons were once again able to answer, scoring the next six points to get the lead back to seven. The Pirates were unable to pull closer than four over the final 5:26 of regulation. The Hall's last push came with a Victoria Cardaci (Holmdel, N.J.) 3-pointer that cut the lead to 88-83 in the final minute of regulation but it was too little too late.
