This article is something else. 23 year old woman loses a "high paying" job (they never say how much exactly) during this crazy politician-inflicted recession, now says she has to resort to stealing food at times. The article never explores why she hasn't looked for another job, even one that might not pay as well as her previous job. The article never explores why, if she had two kids and a high paying job before, she never saved any of her excess income for situations like this. The article then tells the story of another woman, this one with four kids, who instead of going out and looking for a job is relying on her children's lemonade stand for cash. She is relying on other people to bail her out on Go Fund Me.

The article insinuates that a lack of government assistance is to blame for the plight of these folks. Instead of looking to help themselves through new employment, they first look to the government. The abdication of personal responsibility and expansion/reliance of the American sheep on the nanny state is a great tragedy and one that may lead to America's downfall if it isn't stopped.

i agree with your points about these people, but i hope you know this isnt everyone. the job market is super bleak even for those who are trying to get a job from all different angles. lots of people are looking at job first and coming up empty even hourly or contract jobs.

a lot of people are giving up their dreams (in the land of opportunity) just so they can maybe stop their savings from being depleted. its just a beat situation. god forbid they have any health issues or medical expenses.

and thanks to americas greedy little piggy snouts you have half the companies laying people off using covid as an excuse. they pounced on an opportunity to cut costs and sap out production from the people they do keep who should be "so thankful to have a job during these times"

Do you have any proof whatsoever to support that last paragraph?

Funny, I’m currently doing a historical timeline in old family photos along with written description of each person. My Grandmother and Grandfather came to America with their siblings when they were 13 to 20 years of age. None could speak English. They were ridiculed and abused, but never put their hands out. Instead they put their heads down and went to work learned the English language and all became very successful. They earned respect from everyone around them through hard work and charity. One brother owned a butcher shop and fed his neighbors who were down on their luck during the depression. The times have changed in my opinion because we demand so little from our citizens, our children etc...The Boyscouts of America is coming under fire today but that was a place where boys could become men by learning how to first take care of themselves.

yes i have 2 personal examples and a few third party examples. are you finding this statement very hard to believe? covid has been a get out of jail free card for companies struggling to maintain their business model/growth and its why you see layoffs from companies who accepted corporate covid relief money.

if you want to chalk that paragraph up to debatable, thats fine. thats what a message board is for. the stuff above it isnt debatable tho.

nothing is stopping parents from teaching their kids how to become "men". maybe ill start a modern boyscouts where instead of learning old wilderness skills it will be about how to do taxes, understand insurance, properly manage finances, assist in understanding passions. none of these things are learned in school and i get the feeling also skipped on by some parents. lord knows mine skipped it LOL.

You said Half Of the companies...how do two examples extrapolate?

Overall you are right. It was just plain bad, lazy reporting and excuses poor behavior.

One comment though, calling this a "crazy politician-inflicted recession" doesn't help your argument. Keep in mind that both stories are about people in Florida where their government resisted the actions other states were taking related to restrictions.
This recession is the result of a pandemic.... not politicians.
Could politicians have handled things differently? Of course.
Would will still have a recession without any political involvement? Yes!

They sound like great people. We need more of them.

Boyscouts is so much more than wilderness skills, personal management, finances, personal fitness, cooking and nutrition, leadership, but yes now we may need you to start something similar since they are under attack.lol
Sad I watched so many inner city kids in Boyscouts go on to be very successful adults.

Who shut everything down? Politicians.

If we had treated this as any other illness and not taken this drastic action (that didn't save any excess lives), I'm not sure we'd be in a recession. It's debatable, but that's where I stand.

Didn’t save any lives? I’m honestly not sure how you get to that conclusion.

If things didn’t shut down, the only option is more lives lost. We can debate how many... but inaction doesn’t get us to a number lower than 200k at this point in time. Can’t really quantify with so many variables.

On the economy, even looking at Sweden, their economy tanked as well. Pretty much every country dealing with this has experienced a recession.

With no government intervention, People would still be out less and spending less money etc... hundreds of thousands of people still die and consumer confidence still tanks from there and our economic situation isn’t any better than it is now.

Allegedly: less than a million people have died from Covid and 7ish billion people in the world. Still too many deaths. Is that true?

Is the big East still planning on wearing a DOMESTIC terror group on their jerseys? How about they put Al-Quada patches on?

Yes girlscout cookies, I hear they sell them but don’t eat them. Ha!
I was a Boy Scout merit badge counselor for troop 12 Montclair the oldest troop in the country. We were blessed to have a mom teaching nutrition who taught the boys how to read food labels and prepare foods. The boys were responsible for planning, shopping, preparing meals for small groups of younger scouts over an open fire on camp outs. The older scouts preparing the meals were also responsible for setting up camp and the safety of the younger scouts in their small pack. Troop 12 was led by some legendary scout masters most recently by Jeff Gaskin. We had moms driving boys from Newark, east orange every Friday night to spend time with Jeff. Some amazing people passed thru the doors of Troop 12 over the last 100 years including Buzz Aldrin. Hard to find any former scout any color any nationality failing in life. Lots and lots of success stories. LeBron James could have learned a lot from Jeff Gaskin. He was also a Pirate fan!
