This should help us with Bryce Aiken

For those on the Trove my comments coming from Mike Rice about Aiken were very telling.

Funny how posters can be so unexcited about getting a top 100 player. Seems like that is much better than our average player for the last 15 years. If he can get into Harvard with his grades and can fill our needs as a solid point guard , I want him.

Exactly...we've taken more question marks over the years than the Riddler has on his tights! Top 100 kid...we should be doing cartwheels.

Very important if Whitehead leaves early. Then we absolutely need another point to go along with Thomas.

Absolutely true about our need for another PG with the prospect of IW leaving early . I just hope that people have realistic expectations of what Thomas is and what he'll bring to the table.

He may not be the next Isaiah Whitehead but if you fill your roster with an even balance of top 150 players you will find yourself playing in more NCAA tournaments than not.

Aiken is a nice player but won't be a difference maker at SHU. Different position but sort of like that kid who went to Illinois.

Disagree. Aiken is a very good player. He may be small but the kids has ability and he is a very smart player. He is the type of player that will make everyone around him better. I would love to have him.

Bingo!!! A smart Top 100 point guard from a NJ powerhouse program. Getting him along with Powell would be a very good job, 20 times better than anyone had the right to expect. Hell, getting Powell is way more than I expected.

But it's OK this season to not have a backup PG?

And Whitehead is delusional if he thinks he is ready for the NBA. Guy is listed in the 90s for upcoming players for the '16 draft.

He would need to jump 70 spots by next spring to have the possibility of getting a guaranteed contract

Not much meaning to rankings outside of the top 10 or 20. People are shucking and jiving.

I see no little difference between Aiken and Livingston--same age (Aiken reclassified); similar sizes, etc. In fact, I would give the edge to Livingston, who was a May signee at George Mason

Not too many people agree with that POV. If we took Livingston, half the board would be (rightfully) screaming about kw reaching again, hoping some low level kid becomes the miracle recruit. And now we have the chance at a top 100 kid and IMO, that is great. BTW, I thought taking Livingston instead of Jevon may have made sense due to the shortage of guards. But I have never seen Livingston play, I just like who their guards play in general.

I W is a good player. But there are some Big East guards just as good- even better- and smarter on the court. And they aren't going to make an NBA roster.

But let's see how much his overall game has improved.

I give you Dunn. I cant say any other BE guard is clear-cut better than Isaiah. His best was damned good, but too rare. I tend to think he is closer to that peak than he showed us last year.

He has a ton of talent and has had everyone in his life tell him he will play in the NBA.

His goal should be to get the to NBA as soon as possible. If he thinks that he can do that, it is because he will put in the work to get it done. If he doesn't reach his goal then he knows he will have to work harder.

He has always seemed level headed, but there is nothing wrong with him thinking that he has shot at the NBA after this season. I want him to think that and I want him to work his ass off to get there. If he makes it next year, it will be after he had an incredible year for SHU and I will be thrilled.

If Livingston was a reach, so is Aiken. Aiken has better PR, but they are very similar players.

Merge
We have all seen player after player leave early when the player is not ready and when the general consensus is that he is not ready and when those opinions comes from legitimate sources such as the NBA Scouting Combine, NBA scouts or GM's and other reliable sources. Yet we know that players have others whispering in their ear telling them they are ready to turn pro like their family , an agent, an AAU coach, their friends and the player's own ego. I don't know if IW is or will be ready for a legitimate shot at the NBA after this year or not and I just hope he makes a smart decision not one he'll regret.

You may be right. Give me the choice between a guy who a few local HS coaches say is not even close to a high D-1 player and a top 100 kid, I am going with the latter.

Aiken
4 Star

Strengths:
Aiken is a competitive true point guard with goods strength for his size and matching speed and quickness. He pushes the ball with excellent pace on the break and can get to the basket where he can finish or drop off to a open teammate. Aiken can run the team and breakdown the defense and make a play at end of clock situations. Aiken can control the tempo and make open shots when the defense backs away.

Weaknesses:
Aiken must continue to add strength in order to deal with stronger and taller guards in addition to learning to not over penetrate and get sped up which can lead to a costly turnovers.

Bottom Line:
Aiken is a complete point guard that can run the team, make plays off the dribble for himself or teammates and shots as needed. He competes and can play fast or slow. He has a bright future as a high major guard with continued development and production.

Livingston.

Not profiled as deemed not a player deserving of high attention.

That's one site's opinion. Take it as you wish.

Aiken is currently listed as #100 on the Rivals 2016 top 150. If he is willing to come, I say Welcome Aboard!

I mentioned Livingston precisely because he was a "player not deserving of high attention," but I am not sure how--if you watched both of them play over their HS careers--you could put them in different categories.

I like both of them.

I like both also... I was advocating for Livingston all Winter/Spring. Time will tell if I was correct about Livingston... Hopefully Aiken comes here and proves us why he's ranked in the Top100 and a 4 star prospect.

I agree with this.

Harvard slipping badly and Miami coming on.

SHU also very strong.

The cachet of the degree is one matter. But this does not equate to the actual educational support a student will receive. Honestly, the undergraduate education at Harvard is less than one might think - you will rarely if ever be taught directly by professors in small classes. The real comparison is the quality of the direct contact hours and full educational support afforded to these athletes (who work nearly full-time at their sport).

Seton Hall's education support for the student athlete should give us no cause to imagine we provide less than a Harvard. My bet is that we provide more, much more. Would that all young people could receive the level of support we provide.

I am speaking with knowledge on the matter - for what it may be worth.

Shu can compete with just about anyone with the academic support we provide student athletes. The tutoring available and the facilities are top notch. Got a tour of the student athlete facilities under Walsh before the beefsteak. Very impressive. They built a Top not athletic training facility with study hall, academic tutoring facilities, etc. And the place was buzzing with student athletes. There is a whole new amazing world down there. The equipment was comparable with what you would expect professional teams to have. Much much more than I expected.

OK, you can stop trumping up Harvard and start in with how much better Miami is for him.

Expected to announce this weekend.
The plan was for him to announce last night but he changed his mind. SHU was feeling good about their chances. Real good. Now no one is sure what's happening.

Downplaying a Harvard education in relation to SHU in any sense...now I've heard everything.

Any truth to rumor that he is visiting Michigan next week? Coach B was in the area earlier this week.

Without any information on this kid at all, but from the tea leaves on here it seems like this was a kid that Shaheen signed, sealed, and delivered -- and the Head Coach fumbled -- again.
