TJ Simpkins

2 guard shooting 26.3% from 3? But good freethrow shooter. Let's see how this goes.

For a minute thought it was his Twin (signed with Oregon) --welcome TJ.

I was going to bet pretty much anything he was going to be described as a "high level" defender, because almost everyone that comes in the door during the Sha era is described as that. And sure enough I read Carino's article to learn something about this kid and there you go!!!

Budd Clark averaged 20 a game. Simpkins just under 15. Sha is changing his strategy. Keep bringing in dudes who have shown they can put the ball in basket. Not 4 star projects who averaged 3 a game at a high major.
We will see. Some of that was the recruiting strategy last year -- Toumi averaged 11 a game at Evansville over 2 years and Jenkins was 16 per game his last season at ODU.

I also don't think the strategy of getting a top 50 who doesn't put up big stats at a high major as a freshman is a bad one, per se. Depends on who you get and how you develop them. Zuby Ejefor didn't do jack his freshman year at Kansas and was one of the best players in the league last year.

lets hope to god this is a backup. sun 30% from 3 as a guard is unacceptable.

Yea I mean it is fine for a kid who is really good and high level at everything else, but that's kind of a unique profile you don't usually see
Dehere 23 would you respectfully please elaborate

that was our PG profile. its extremely clear last year that we needed shooters. sha told the one we had to walk, and brought in two really terrible shooters.

Meaning if it is say Kadary Richmond, a unique point-forward/guard type kid who doesn't shoot the 3 well, but kills people in the paint (and this year, 15 feet in), rebounds like a forward, is an excellent passer, is an excellent defender, and causes issues for the other teams with his size and smarts, I'd have no problem if he shoots 26% from 3, especially if you surround him with some players that fit/make sense.

Some other examples - from a different era, John Linehan (my recall is he wasn't a good 3 point shooter or outside shooter generally). Or Posh Alexanders first 2 years at St. John's, where he wasn't a good shooter from the outside but did a lot of other stuff at a high level.

That’s fair. But the question marks remain the same.

He hits ft’s so I like him!
81 % from FT line, so mechanics are good. He gets to the rim and finishes AND makes FTs. This is a good thing. Sha will fix the 3. Can't his brother recommit from Oregon? He shoots it 36% from 3. Maybe TJ is catching up to his twin. He only has played 1 year of D1 ball.

There’s still lots to do. But it will be very clear where we are NIL wise if we don’t sign a top player. How much could our two signees have cost? $100k each?
Not too mention the cost of Coleman, Middleton and Okorafor are off the books, along with the “graduating” players. So we should be way ahead, but here we are..

Our number listed for last year was $1.5m. I think that was probably inflated by double. And I think our current number is maybe $1m.

If we had the money tht we’ve been told we have plus having the desperation of getting rid of last season abdominal stench. You’d think we’d be reaching out to DJ Wagner, Aaron Bradshaw, Bryce Hopkins, RJ Luis.. But no, we go straight to the basement of the portal. All the signs are showing we are finished, no matter what propaganda is put out here.

Profiles as a Sha player for sure in terms of style: Game is getting to the rim, not a good outside shooter nor does he take many.

He put up solid numbers for a freshman, albeit again lower competition. Seems like maybe there’s some upside there. Hopefully, not a budget breaker and he can be a solid backend rotation piece.

We still need much better players to round out the rotation, though.

Well Bud Boomer we've got 83 dollars and 64 cents left in the Nil budget, who should we go after. Seriously hope we can afford some bigs. Enjoy your informative and intelligent posts
