Toomey on Trump chances

Well that was not the question. The issue is would he make a good President. But as to the question of being a good politician, let's see he was elected Governor of a Liberal State in Mass. & Senator in Conservative Utah as well as the Republican nominee for President. By my way of thinking that makes him a great politician. Now do you have anything to contribute other than name calling. If not just move on.

Chris Christie elected governor in liberal NJ, any interest in him?

I think Chris Christie would make a better President than some of the other names I have heard floated about from either party. I do not think he would get the GOP nomination however.

Romney would make a good president but maybe too old. I’m wishy-washy on some of his policies but maybe that’s not a bad thing.

There is nothing to suggest Klobuchar is qualified to run the country. No experience running anything.

Lol no

De Santis will coast if Trump steps aside. He is Trump policy without the baggage and one of the few Republicans to stand up to to the media

He’s qualified but I don’t think he’d be a good president, he’s just not a nice person.

I wonder who the last truly good person president was, or even just to run for POTUS. Probably Reagan or Carter of those who got elected and Romney of those who ran and lost.

But do we really know anything about the character of these people without meeting them? For instance, I've met in passing/shaken hands with Bill Clinton (after he was president) and Trump (before he was president). They were "nice" in public but you can't judge someone off that one brief interaction. Both men are pretty universally agreed to be "bad" people.

Bush was/is a nice guy.

Nice was probably not the right word as I am talking in a political sense. Maybe the better word is amenable.

Actually, Bush Sr. was supposedly a very kind/thoughtful guy. It's just one data point, but I knew someone that was on his secret service detail at Kennebunkport who was very complementary of him.

I think that was his public perception (nice guy). His actions throughout his career in government show me otherwise, but your account from the agent is certainly worth noting.

100%. I previously worked for 9 years for a company HQd in southern Maine. Many of my colleagues know first hang accounts of interactions with The Bushes. They are very popular in that area for their generosity and being down to earth/approachable.

Also, not a huge Obama fan, but he seems like a decent person.

Just curious but what are your thoughts on Lindsey Graham both as a candidate and as President. Despite the fact that he has gone back and forth on some issues and his support or lack thereof of those in the political arena , I do think if given the chance he would make a good President and he would not adhere strictly to party line on all issues but would rather do whatever he thinks is the right thing to do regardless.

I don’t see leadership qualities you need in a Presidential candidate. We really need a President that can instill confidence and unite (too much to ask?). We can do a lot better than Graham.

Would be an awful president IMO.

How do the two President Bush actions indicate that they were not nice guys ??? Everything I've read over the course of time indicates that both were nice though not necessarily good Presidents. Actually one was a good President but not the other in my view.

The irony
What irony???

I feel Trump cheapened the office of the president and I lean right. There used to be some level of respect coming with disagreement in politics, not just mocking and ridicule. Makes us look the fool on the global stage.

I’m not in politics, you’re not a public figure. You may be anonymous, but I’d call you an ass on here or in your presence.

There’s the clear difference, no irony to see. Carry on Alanis.
