the rhetoric from the republican base that voted for trump that a "temporary" hit is worth it in the long run is starting to seem like straight coping. this is chaos. half those people won't be alive long enough to see it. America was supposed to be great again now, not in 15 years. and this idea that it will bounce back is also speculative. Trump is severing every tie in the global market.
its clear he doesn't understand tariffs and is too egotistical to pull back. its also clear he simply rages on "america not getting a fair deal." So japan doesn't buy american cars, and we buy a lot of japanese cars. is that not OK? not every market has to be a fair deal, it balances across every market. Maybe american cars stink? who is buying american cars? The brands make good cars, not the country. But hey, let's raise the price $6k for all americans who buy Toyotas because theyre affordable and reliable.
but the idea is that we start manufacturing in the US right? how are we ever going to compete with countries that have legal slave labor? the US citizens are always going to care about the price instead of where it comes from. are we going to find cheap labor all of a sudden? trump just shipped them all to the moon. no incentive or penalty in the world is going to stop people from buying cheaper products from other countries.
then companies are going to start laying off a lot of people to conserve their money for this complete self inflicted volatility. wonder if "the long run" will matter when people are unemployed for a year. mind you the unemployment market is already brimming with federal employees from the first self imposed brash decision. are we resetting from covid by revisiting covid conditions? events now can doom families futures.
its chaos. chaos isn't good .
