We’re still not partnering with Frank The Tank?

When the Practice facility is complete we should have an "All Hands on Deck" meeting to introduce the new facility and an Open and Honest Discussion on NIL. Sha, Felt, McBride, Reilly and BoR should all be there and need to be honest and open.

Make the event open to all at no charge and it should honestly explain how far behind we are and exactly how much Sha needs to compete. Sha needs to speak from the heart and explain to the admins and the alumni what he feels he needs to compete at the top of the Big East. Dont pussyfoot around with mixed messages. If we are at $1Million and need $4Million say it. Launch a donation drive with a stated goal and deadline. Explain Revenue Sharing vs NIL and where they want to steer donations for largest impact.

If we cant give Sha all of the tools to do his job right for even 1 season, I feel it will be something we who are Seton Hall regret for a long, long time.

Try to start something with it then. Pledge $1 to onward setonia for every mile Frank walks in the next year and try to get others to join you. Get some traction and maybe Frank and OS will jump on to help publicize it and recruit people to join you.
That doesn’t solve anything. That’s still just blindly donating.

We need the groundwork layed, a plan, a reason to do it.

This is Mike McBrides job. He should and needs to be doing this. Not me.

The reason is we need money to compete and we don't have whale to write a huge check for us. Frank isn't going to and doesn't have the money to move the needle even if he wanted to. Barstool isn't going to either, what would be in it for them? That means the most realistic approach for us to generate funds is crowdfunding. Something like this would hit a lot better being lead organically by someone trying to help than by the organization asking for the money. So keep up the absolutely useless whining or actually try doing something to help.

Again, this is Mike McBrides job. He needs to convince them that partnering with Seton Hall and putting out content is worth it. If he can’t do that then what are we paying him for?

Just giving up and telling the same fans to do it on their own is why we’re in the situation we are.

We have a popular fan at a premier sports company and all anybody wants to do is make excuses and belittle the thought.

Enjoy our 1-17 Big East season

Yes, he's said that corporate partnerships is the key to his NIL strategy, but part of that includes understanding where his leverage is and where he has none. Barstool Sports, for instance, has more than 700x as many Instagram followers as Seton Hall basketball. They won't pay us a dime to create content with us. More realistically, they'd request we pay them more than we're paying our whole team right now.

So yes, corporate partnerships is his goal and hopefully he's got a few realistic irons in the fire because we can't afford a barstool partnership. The best we can hope to do there is give Frank free tickets and try to piggyback off what he gives us organically.

Nobody said partner with Barstool. I said partner with Frank on his walks. A logical, realistic opportunity. As usual, everything was taken far off base.

Regardless, what is Mike McBride doing? I didn’t realize he only worked during the off season. I thought this was a 12 month position. When’s the last time he made a statement?

All the people who bought the legacy wall brick should be invited to an introduction to the new facility . In fact that should have been included with the purchase of the brick it would be more of an incentive to buy the brick . I think they dropped the ball on that one !!!! About the meeting you mention it is a good idea but I do not see that happening .

Frank also already has a significantly larger following than SHU hoops and all of it's players, so again, unless he just feels like doing us a favor at his own expense, we'd be the ones paying him for the content. Now you may think that spend is worthwhile and that's fine, but that would fall with marketing and it's not helping our NIL situation.

As for McBride, why do you expect him to tell you what he's doing? Just because you personally aren't aware of something doesn't mean it's not happening. Most people don't share regular updates on their work with the general public and would probably be fired if they did.

So we don’t try? Got it. Think small, play small. Working out well so far

Didn't say that, in fact I said the opinion that it would be worthwhile spend is a perfectly valid one. The people making those decisions need to weigh that against their other options and how they fit in the marketing budget. And another note on what McBride's been doing, I'd guess he was our lead and put a lot of time into that 12-year Learfield contract extension that was announced a couple weeks ago.

I would hope not, that’s general athletics PR. Thts the AD’s and others jobs. Nothing to do with NIL.

I feel like I'm going nuts here
The school *did* partner with Frank. That's why he's at the games at all. There was even a while article earlier this year about how it was all McBride's idea.

Welp, I guess if a tree lands in the forest and nobody hears it, does it help NIL?

Seems like that was all last year. Hopefully something comes up soon for this season.

What? You would hope the "Deputy AD for revenue generation, NIL & strategic initiatives" isn't the lead on the contract for the company that's going to be selling our 2 primary revenue generating assets (tickets and corporate partnerships) for the next 12 years?

Interesting thread, with lots of good points raised from differing sides.

Yes, new media is where it's at in terms of making the program visible. It's part of the reason I was so nonplussed last week about Seton Hall rejecting Politi, a hack columnist for an outlet that has absolutely zero influence on anything anymore.

But even recognizing the value of new media doesn't mean you can just snap your fingers and make it happen. As someone else said, what's in it for them? What, we're just going to tell Portnoy, "Hey, do something with Seton Hall Basketball?" Why would he? Even in new media, there has to be some sort of news angle. What's the pitch? Why would he devote resources right now to covering or partnering with this program when there is no there there?

Frank the Tank is something (for the record, I'm one who would rather us not be associated with anything under the Barstool umbrella, but I realize I'm not in the coveted demographic any longer in terms of generating hype for SHBB), but he's not someone who is going to move the needle, either ... at least not with our program in its current state. I was looking at that YouTubers.com page linked earlier in this thread about Frank's value and sphere of influence. The numbers are pretty paltry.

For comparison, I searched on the only "YouTuber" I know personally, my brother-in-law, who has made a career of it for the past 15 years. Lives in a nice, $2 million house and probably has enough security at 44 years old for the rest of his life. He's got five times the number of subscribers as Frank does and ten times the views with only 1200 more videos. And I have still never met a person who has heard of him. (I ask people when I know they are enthusiasts of his specific field of content.) So here's a guy whose footprint and influence is considerably larger than Frank's, and yet he operates in relative obscurity, even as he has made a great success of himself.

But for us -- small fan base, modest record of historical success -- Frank (a built-in fan who just happens to like our program, independent of his business) is about the best we can hope for in terms of level of visibility until we start winning in earnest. There has to be mutual value in terms of a partnership with anyone, and to earn coverage, it still works like legacy media: You need to have something worth coverage.

Please explain his position and what he has done for us.

wait so the school has engaged with frank multiple times? so the original poster is so upset and also wrong?
No there were partnership opportunities with SH and barstool that the school shut down.
The frank walk with Sha was just a social media content thing.

At the end of the day with the position we are in- all news is good news and all dollars are good dollars

In all seriousness, if you're going to partner with a "social media influencer", you need to pick someone who will influence the non/wayward/part time fan. No one looks at this guy and says, "yeah, Seton Hall!". This guy is a joke.

The guy is a major Seton Hall Fan. He was courtside yesterday at the game.

His Frank Walks series on barstool is becoming mainstream media popular. He’s becoming a household name.

And what do we do? Nothing. Doesn’t take a genius to see a donation per mile with a split going to a cause and the rest to our NIL would be easy and majorly beneficial in more ways than one.

But no, Mike McBride sleeps at his desk collecting his guaranteed paychecks. Empty suit.

Anyway, here’s our Seton Hall supporter putting content out with Rutgers’ Eric LeGrand.

This is the guy you want representing Seton Hall. This guy? You really don't see a problem with this guy being the rep?
Question is why do you have a problem? If this guy could get any eyes on the program or have a weekly video he does with the team why are we at least not trying more than have him sit at a few games?

Weird take…that’s exactly what he would do

I had a few co workers and friends text me last year saying hey did Frank the tank go to seton hall? Or hey did you know Frank was a diehard SHU guy? And these people wouldnt be able to tell you the different between Sha Kevin Willard or mother seton herself

To me that’s relevance which we should want…not partner or pay him at all but he can help bring us some level of relevance

It's not a Barstool thing at all. you want an influencer to partner with, you should choose one that is not an embarrassment. you know, one that will influence the non-fan...
Frank was a court officer in Superior Court of NJ in Newark for many years, has a family history tied to Seton Hall leadership and is generally seen as an authentic and yes, emotional fan. We should embrace his type of Fandom and he does bring attention to the school and program. Look at the professional athletes and coaches that have done his walks.

Go blue! Yay! Participation trophies for all. Ice cream at bunnies. Seton Hall is the only legitimate program left, our kids go to class, pray and say yes ma’am! That’s what you and the rest of the geezers think..

Yeah let’s pass up a big mainstream opportunity just so we can have Dan beg here for $5 a clip on nonsense instead all because you old timers don’t understand the new media landscape.

Just know your audience. Your idea is a good one. Putting it in front of these people is probably where it all falls apart lol.

Put this in an email and send it to someone who can do something about it instead of putting it here for people who have nothing better to do to scrutinize.
