Apple makes a 500 Billion investment in US,Major Taiwan chipmaker plans 100 billion investment in US both to avoid tariffs and for chipmaker a great national win for US.Time will tell but these investments were a surprise and raised the terrifying thought to Democrats that tariffs could work.

And we should acknowledge that tech/high end chips/AI are now an integral part of our national defense/security. We can’t afford to outsource, ESPECIALLY to China.

It boggles my mind that, especially after COVID, we as a country did not on-shore more products and services out of China. Instead, we've continued to do the opposite. Insanity.

Indeed, I have been saying for years and why I thought the CHIPS act was important legislation.

Good that Trump is negotiating for more deals, and it was good that Biden got that bill done during his term.

The CHIPS Act was a good start.

And instead of demonizing Musk, has anyone done more for our national defense considering NASA has outsourced much of its work to SpaceX, that Starlink provides a strategic advantage for global communications, and that he has been a developer of AI and proponent of it being held in an industry cooperative for security purposes?

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win. Example, when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don’t trade anymore-we win big. It’s easy!

I am not in favor of tariffs. I believe there are a number of examples in our history where tariffs have proven to be a net negative for the county. President Trump believes otherwise. He has stated on several occasions, most recently on March 2nd that “trade wars are good, and easy to win.”

It’s been over 90 years since the last serious trade war so the economy is significantly different. Perhaps the Administration has some new tactic that will improve the ultimate outcome to a net positive.

The issue isn’t just the tariffs; it’s the imposing of the tariffs followed by the postponing or reversing them the next day. It’s as if the President is work-shopping to see how this will play out on television. The stock market goes down; postpone the tariffs. The auto industry cries the foul; give them an exemption.

It’s not necessary. Conventional wisdom knows what the first reaction will be. If the Administration believes in tariffs, do it and I guess we’ll find out how it all turns out. President Trump was elected to be a strong leader but he is coming off as feckless and indecisive. After all, trade wars are good and easy to win.
