1. They did not Win with him. Always struck me as a guy who would rather be the best player on a bad team than a good player on a good team. We'll soon see if that is the case.
2. There were too many mouths to feed...with one year of experience, IW and KC should be much better than last year, and they now know they don't have to compete with Gibbs for shots.
3. Opens another spot on the team to add a pass-first, defensive-minded, team-first point guard - hopefully one is still out there.
4. Gibbs' defense was not good, so that will not be missed.
5. Gibbs was chippy at times, and I always got the impression he thought he was better than he was...which could have helped lead to team issues.
6. Read somewhere that his parents complained to the Coach about playing time...how was that even possible? For obvious reasons, don't need that.
7. Now, no us vs. them issues anymore...Willard has his team, and now has ZERO excuses if he does not succeed. Plus, I think he has two more years with these players, it is now more than ever, make it or break it time.

Except problems are:

Gibbs was probably our best player.

Now not only is our front court weak, but so is our back court.

Not only is back court weak, it is extremely short handed, we really only have two guards that can play any significant time, what happens if one gets hurt?

Feel we were lower to middle pack team this year, so now where do we go?:

Can we find a PG with any immediate talent this late in the game? Doubtful can find someone who can have immediate impact that will be needed.

Those are all true to some extent but the bottom line is this team is not better without Sterling Gibbs, especially considering an alternative Willard may bring in. That's the bottom line. I too was sick of the technicals and badly wanted a true PG but not at this expense.

Had us around 6-7 with Gibbs. Moving down a couple slots, I see 7th place as a ceiling right now. I'd put my money on 8/9

you are blind to everything going on around you.

Oh, please enlighten me, oh wise one....seriously, I see it all, just saying I don't think this is another sign the apocalypse is upon the SHU basketball team. I don't think next year's win total has anything to do with whether Gibbs is on this team or not IMHO.

Many of your points about Gibbs are not incorrect but the bottom line is in spite of all those "flaws" we are a better team with him. You don't just take a borderline first team BE player off your squad and claim it won't make a difference. No one is going to buy that.

I hear you, and a lot of my justification is based on whether we get a "true" point guard. If not, then yes, we are hurting depth-wise in the backcourt.

Ugh. I cannot stand not posting. I want to maintain an embargo on the total bullshit that is this program. But I'm totally with Bobbie Solo.

He was your best player. Have fun finding a replacement. Whitehead is not the one even if he thinks so.

LOL. Best part about Gibbs leaving. Willard will 100% be fired next year.

Ever hear the phrase..."things are never as good as they seem, and never as bad as they seem"...I think that should apply in many of your views about the SHU basketball program. All of this stuff is not life or death, calm down.

Just look at Assist to turnover ratio for starters. The numbers from last year: Gibbs 110/58, IW 78/73 and KC 58/50. Gibbs leaving not only means losing the best shooter/scorer on the team, but also the best ball handler. Now the backcourt is IW, KC and Soffer. Other than Delgado all The Hall has in the front court is question marks. In the back court zero depth and nobody who has shown yet they can take care of the basketball. It's very hard to be optimistic when (Gibbs' warts and all) The Hall just lost their best player imo.

Yeah, because "true PG's" are a dime a dozen, especially this late in the game... What makes you think even if there were one available that Willard could close him? Wouldn't a smart player who has any options take a hard look at the state of the program and want to steer clear?!?

Let's not imply that Gibbs was a bad kid. He is a good kid and has never caused any off the court trouble for SHU. The only trouble he had was the Arch incident which was bad but give him credit he handled it as good as it could be handled. if he had an edge I'm OK with that. Most good players have an edge and that is why they are good.

Who did we rely on to score during end game situations - Gibbs. Who took games over for periods of time the most out of any of our players - Gibbs. Who had the best A/TO ratio - Gibbs. Whose hands did you want to have the ball when the clock was running down or end game situations - Gibbs. The only knock I could even think of was he was not a good defender. Anyone implying we will be better off without him is incorrect IMO unless they know we will get a stud PG that can score which will most likely not happen this late in the game.

Hmm, Let's see, losing your best player on the team has nothing to do with next year's win total? Do you think this team is better without Gibbs on the team? If you do, I cannot disagree with you more.

And yes this is another sign of the apocalypse for this program. This program is going no where but down until we change coaches.

Listen, I see the warts with the program like anyone else..my only point is that I don't think this will make that big of a difference with the team's success next year, i.e. win total. As far as a pg, I agree, it may not be easy to find at this point, but I think the team would be better with a true pg versus Gibbs next year. There were too many shoot first players on the team. We've had that for a few years now, and it has not worked, so why would Gibbs and his no defense help this team WIN next year? And when I say Win, I'm not talking about the cupcakes in the early season, but being top 5 in the Big East and competing for a title.

Section 112, all good points, but my premise implies that there will be some growth in ability and leadership from the returning Freshmen and Sophomores which will make up for those traits provided by Gibbs. IW certainly has the ability to take and make those shots you mentioned, but he does have to mature and cut down significantly on the turnovers this year.

HallB I agree that this will help Khadeen get more court time but I think he was gonna get lots of time anyway. And with Gibbs here or not IW was going to have to grow up quickly because we still would have been thin at guard. Now we have two guards with one year experience and freshman who was recruited to be a spot up shooter and not necessarily a ball handler. Tell me again how this is better? I guess I'm not buying your premise.

80 - you da man and I'm using my dispensation (rather rapidly). Sigh.

I just wanted to say thank goodness HallB is ok with Gibbs leaving. Phew. Thats a relief.

I know when I heard the news all I could think of was how it was a negative for the team, but now that HallB has given me seven (7!) different reasons why he's ok with Gibbs leaving I realize I must have been wrong about having our leading scorer/best player/ only senior transfer out.

As I say to my wife, friends, and coworkers any time something seemingly bad happens, "If HallB is okay with it, then so am I!"

People: there is no silver lining to this. Stop.

Sorry bobo, wasn't trying to speak for you and every other hall fan, just trying to offer a different perspective on the situation. You don't have to like it, but you also don't have to be a jerk about it.
