They are 9-0 in the MVC and playing at Evansville who is 18-4. This should be a great game. The W in December looks very good, especially since they had all of their stars playing.

Wichita State should be able to run the table ? If not maybe possibly 1 loss since they are now playing teams that they have already beaten in their conference .

They are hammering Evansville (KP #54), by far their biggest competition in the conference.

WSU is up 59-41 with 6 minutes left.

Maybe Evansville was off, or that was a very weak 18-4 team. Wsu should run the table.

wsu now at full strength, maybe they lose to uni or sweep reg season but lose title game regardless they are a lock

Question: assuming Wichita state finishes the year in the top 25, when selection committee looks at our resume would our win be credited as a top 25 RPI win or would the win be recorded with whatever Wichita state's RPI was at the date of our game?

I'm pretty sure it's recorded with whatever the team's RPI is the date of the game but I could be wrong.

Hope we keep this series going for another two years.

How interesting would it be to play them at their zoo next season with a veteran team competing against their depleted one?

Whitehead said in a post game presser that the game played there last season was the loudest and most intense atmosphere he has ever experienced.

While I'm not in love with more expansion, I am extremely intrigued by the possibility of adding them and Dayton to the league. I think they fit the mold of what the league is trying to accomplish, and would make the league even more of a grind than it already is.

WSU's last loss was to us, and their best win was the game before ours when they knocked off a then top 25 team (Utah??)

Will never happen... SPK knows more, but if we admit a PUBLIC school into our conference... Our financial books and taxes (I believe) will be looked at much differently.

What happens when you play in a weak conference.

While That is definitely true, WSU has made their way up to #12 in Kenpom which accounts for Strength of opponents.

Trust me, we would LOVE to have more quality opponents to play in conference. Its not fun having to go 18-0 in conference in order to MAYBE get an at-large.

The MVC is not good. Northern Iowa has completely fallen on its face after beating UNC and ISU. When the conference record against nonconference opponents is under .500 it is hard to make an argument for it. This has been a 1 team NCAA bid ever since Creighton joined the Big East.

Well .... except last year with both WSU and UNI, but I get your point. Though it may be a 1 bid league without Creighton, but both UNI and WSU have made it farther than Creighton has once they got in there ... EVER. Fun fact ... Creighton has NEVER won two consecutive games in the NCAA tournament. :)

Unfortunately for us, there is no good fit of a conference. We outdo the MVC in every possible way (as far as performance, funding, etc etc), but can't join most conferences due to football. BE is off the table due to the reasons mentioned in this thread. There are only 1 or 2 possibilities but definitely will have hurdles. Most will require major travel for games. This isn't a huge deal for our big sports as we have access to jets whenever we want, but other schools may not be in the same position to come to Wichita. It adds cost to fly all the smaller sports too. So ... really, our only option is to keep beating up the MVC and doing well in the NCAA until an opportunity opens up.

I remember when the MVC had a 4 bid year. I completely agree about the travel. West Virginia has been complaining about the travel for B12 games for non football sports, but I was also surprised when I saw the chartered or private planes for you guys. Creighton does the same? And I did not think NIU would start so poorly in conference play.
CU has had some tough 2nd round NCAA opponents which is now called the 3rd round. Interesting stuff.
Thanks.

Assuming they win out, I'm guessing Wichita will be seeded somewhere in the 7-9 range (b/c they've beaten no one except a middling Utah team). That means a matchup with a 1 or 2 seed in round two. I would NOT want to play this Wichita team in the second round.

That depends on how much the committee takes into account injuries and how the team is playing come march. 4 of the 5 losses came with Van Vleet injured and Frankamp not eligible, and Shamet injured leaving only 1 Guard on the roster that has played any real minutes since Van Vleet and Frankamp have been able to play. Shamet might still return in a couple weeks. Lunardi already has us up to a 6 seed. I can realistically see us getting anywhere from a 4 to 10 seed come March by winning out. The quality win column is the only thing that will be 'bad' on the resume. There are no bad losses, Top 10 non con SOS, possible Top 10 in Kenpom and possible a ridiculous conference record (plus a scoring margin of 20+ for conference games). It will definitely be interesting to see how it works out. I agree though, I would feel worse for the high seed that gets stuck playing us in the first or second round, than I would for us.

That's one thing that people seem to misunderstand about WSU. There is a LOT of financial support. We have our one very obvious big backer, but there are multiple other wealthy donors. On top of that, Wichita is known as "the air capital of the world" due to the aviation presence here in Wichita. Several of the major aircraft companies have large manufacturing facilities and headquarters here in Wichita. This leads to easy access to planes/charters/etc along with several companies that have donated along the way. The basketball team and Marshall basically have a fleet at their disposal. They only drive to the short close games.

As far as UNI ... I have no idea what to think of them. They go from beating UNC and ISU to falling to the lower tier teams in the MVC. We beat them by 19 on their home court. They just have no depth. If you can shut down their few scorers, they run out of option.

As far as CU and their tough second round opponents ... so has WSU (Gonzaga, KU) .. that didn't stop us :). Sorry, you wont get me to give Creighton much credit. :)

Advancing in the tournament is a combination of skill and luck. A lot of luck.

There are no bad teams in the tourney but some roads are more difficult than others.

There are countless examples where team A's "road to advance" is much much much easier than team B's road to advance even if they are the same seed.
