Will Villanova men's basketball go to the White House?

"Slippery Jay Wright and Tubby Jalen Brunson have been disinvited to the White House after much deliberation and thought. We will be holding a self-congratulatory celebration of the flag on the White House lawn instead. Sad!"

I certainly hope so. It does not matter who the occupant of the office is, when the office invites you, you go. End of story.

There have been plenty of presidents I disagreed with on some issues (including this one) or maybe didn't even like personally. I would have been honored for any of them to invite me to the WH.

These days everyone retreats to their corner/echo chamber. Sports teams refusing to go is just another sign of a toxic, deteriorating society where respect and courtesy has gone out the window.

I have a feeling that Nova and Wright won't play games like the Eagle's ownership did.
They didn't. They were quite clear from the start that they would, as an organization, go, but that anyone who did not want to participate was free not to. That was a number of weeks ago, and immediately, the majority of those players were on record saying they would opt out, but they supported the rights of their other teammates to attend. If I knew who was not planning to attend, I'm sure someone at the White House did, too ... the White House just waited until the last minute in order to make a public spectacle of it. When your entire platform/program is based on stoking culture wars, you can't miss opportunities like that.

It would be nice to keep politics out of this. But we live in a world where a major news station misrepresented, make that knowingly, outright lied, re the Eagles kneeling newsclip to make their viewers think the Pres was right. Sorry, when I grew up the name Pravda was associated with that BS.

We elect a knucklehead, low class guy as pres, we are gonna be lead by a knucklehead, low class guy. On that red hat, the slogan should be "Never give a sucker an even break".

I hear what you're saying and it's certainly an incredible honor to go to the White House and meet the president, any president, but how can you expect a person (not an organization) from accepting an invite to be chummy with a person who that individual might believe (read: not accusing) is inciting violence against your race of people or undermining a protest against racial violence? Your own values should trump all.

You've drunk the Eagle's cool aid.

I just think that's a ridiculous assertion, to be completely honest with you.

What’s truly sad is that we’re turning sports at all levels into a platform for people expressing their political views . Watching sports , whether it be in person or watching it on TV , was a way to get away from the everyday stresses that we all face and to be doing something that brought enjoyment .

I don't totally agree with that. The game itself still has little/nothing to do with politics. It's pre-game, post-game, and third-party commentary that has become unbearable. For that reason, I still enjoy the game.

last time i checked this is america, and if youre invited you can do whatever the hell you want.
Exactly...I would be interested in see how everyone feels if they were in that position. Personally if I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go to the White House and meet the President, I would go, no matter who they were. It would be an honor to be there and what better way to judge the President for yourself than to do it in person.

"Known liar" .....You must be referring to the mainstream media! Lol
No, I'm talking about the person who has made well more than 3,000 demonstrably false claims since taking office, as well as his press secretary, who has shown little to no hesitancy to speak them from her podium. It's disgraceful and dangerous, and their purposeful attempt to discredit a media working nobly to chronicle the pulverization of all these presidential norms is something we may never recover from as a nation. Eventually, it'll be broken past the point of repair and life in this country will be forever altered - and not for the better.

good thing you dont have the right to tell people what to do or how to act.
It's a line from a Fox News reporter that was talking about Lebron James. I thought some of you would pick up on that. It created a ruckus with the other News outlets.

Media working nobly? As a former professional journalist I am horrified by the lack of journalistic integrity and disregard for basic fairness in the coverage of this president and his administration.

3000 lies. Who's keeping count? Let's hear these demonstrable lies. I'm all ears. Number one, I'm guessing, is " If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" or do I have the wrong President?

You guys are so filled with hate that the bile must dripping from your nostrils. What a terrible life you must have. Many of us suffered for 8 years with a guy who really hated America and went around the world spewing that hatred. But he never had to face what Trump is facing. He would have collapsed under the weight of the calumny.

Here is my personal experience. In 1967 I was given a commendation for work I had performed. I was invited to the White House to meet the President along with perhaps 24 other people who had received similar invitations. The President at that point was Lyndon Baines Johnson, a scoundrel if there ever was one in every possible way I had no use for him , especially since he was responsible for getting us deeper into Vietnam. A year later, even the Democrats were sick of him.

But he was the President of the United States and I was not going to miss the opportunity to meet him, like him or not.

As an aside, also present that day was Hubert Humphrey, the Vice President. He asked me what agency I represented and when I said the Navy, he responded "Oh, from the Halls of Montezuma". Not quite, Mr. Vice president, but I smiled and didn't attempt to correct him. Nor did I write a letter to the Washington Post claiming that Humphrey was a knucklehead. He wasn't and neither is Trump.

I don’t think you get an invitation right after you win a title. If my memory serves me, they get invitation several months later.
But this comes after graduation and many of the young men are now pursuing their future careers. This should have been done right after the championship and before their graduation.

It’s incredibly sad that you’re horrified by the “lack of journalistic integrity” rather than the more obvious reason to be horrified. I guess you long for the days when America was once great, huh? Like 40s? 50s?

Liberals, including the mainstream media, still can't get over that fact that their girl lost and will do everything in their power to disrespect our President and his administration. I say stop inviting any of these teams to the White House. The players don't want to be celebrated for their championships and play on the field but instead use it as an opportunity to basically say 'look at me and watch me throw a temper tantrum about how I feel wronged by the world'.

My parents always told me that if you want respect you must give respect you don't demand respect because of a title.
