Probably an even easier poach now. If next AD comes in and he's a football guy, Kevin's resources are gone. Doubt he's willing to take that gamble.
Boomer Esasison said the same thing about Maryland and he of course played there. If they had not gone to B10 he said they could have been more of a football school
I’d have a hard time thinking that Nova would fire their coach and not have a real plan for a replacement. Given the choices out there and remaining options, seems like Willard is one of if not their best option. They fired Neptune for the lousy ROI he had on the NIL investment. Whether you like Willard or not, he did well with the teams where he had legit talent, and also found the diamonds in the rough (ie. Ro Gill, McKnight etc..). I understand the attraction to Collins to some extent, but he’s a Chicago guy and probably sticking it out where he has less pressure and guaranteed employment for life.
Just seems like Willard is in their crosshairs. Plus I think he’d try to uphold some of the Jay traditions with keeping some Nova guys on his staff.

Will be so strange to see Willard at Villanova.
But hey, he has a really good team at Maryland this year that delivered him a good seed in the NCAAT and he finally got some favorable match-ups with Grand Canyon and Colorado State. He should finally get to the second weekend and drag this out more. With the portal opening tomorrow, Villanova is on the clock.

This tournament has more blowouts and the fewest surprises of nearly any tournament that I can remember.
NIL money certainly has an impact on quality of players in the major conferences.
100%. He’s got some nice matchups this tournament. He should definitely make it to next weekend for the first time.
Villanova has a plan (they’ve had one before the season started).
They have a list of potential candidates.
Odum was their preference but knew UV would probably outbid them.
Collins has interviewed with them already and I believe they are still taking.
Willard is not on their radar at all.
I don't think it's the money as much as the no sit out transfer rule. I said in another thread I have a few buddies who for years bet $20 moneyline on every first round lower seeded team. This is the first time they chose not to do it becuase you don't get veteran teams that have been together for years at the mid major level.
But that’s my point. All the money the major conferences now have disallow continuity at the mid major schools. They don’t have their junior and senior leaders that rise to the occasion in the tourney because they’re complementary parts at the bigger schools.
I also would make all my money back easily because I knew which mid majors would win first round. I would get a fair share wrong, but would at least make up the difference with the 2 that would pull out an upset.

I heard Willard to Nova with Tiny coming on board in a “player liaison” role so he doesn’t have to pretend to be an assistant coach anymore. With Antigua coming on as the academic advisor for the same reason
.We are all over the map here with who does, who doesn’t know. Given how quickly teams are moving on coaches it would appear Nova’s preferred candidate(s) are still in the tourney. If they wanted Collins you would think this would be done already.
Yeah, the NCAAT is getting very homogenized. All the teams starting to look the same, play the same. It will get rarer and rarer to see a low/mid major to win a first round game.

Agree. Cronin, Moser, Pitino are all done playing. If no announcement tomorrow or Tuesday, think it is Willard.

How do you figure? If tht shot missed, the ONLY thing being said about Maryland and moreso Willard for the entire offseason and next regular season is tht he can’t win in the tournament. It would have been hard to refute the evidence.
Now he’s one win away from the elite 8 and everybody forgetting his past…
As someone who was more critical of Willard than most, especially in how he handled his exit, I’m thrilled for him. Bet on himself and his team with this public negotiating and now it will pay off big time for him.
You can tell how much his players respect him by the way the mobbed him in that post game interview. With the Big East done I’ll be pulling for them the rest of the way.

Could have been a travel...he is still in drama with the school and no AD...next has florida...he better get some game tape in on the flight back...i can already see the excuse we had to fly out west twice in two weeks
