Winners and losers

I think Danny got a little cocky with his recruitment this offseason. All the "we recruit the parents" and "we only bring in certain players" stuff left him with a mid roster. I don't see them as any kind of threat to make the final four. They look like a first weekend team to me.

I think they just missed on Mahaney and that plus Diarra being banged up really hurts them.

Plus, it’s hard to replace NBA players.

Taris was kind of a miss too. Certainly when compared to what they could have gotten off b2b titles.

I'm not sure what the expectations were for him compared to how he has played. CL82 will know better.

His numbers are better than last at Michigan when you consider FG% and less minutes played. But that's just me looking at the stat line without reading anything or looking at any of the advanced metrics stuff (even that, I find sometimes deceptive). I've watched parts of games where he looks like a force and other times where he isn't a factor. I saw him extended a few times earlier in the year during their OOC where he looked really good against good opponents, and a good chunk of their Friday night game against SJU where he also looked really good.

This year's team doesn't have the elite PG or Center play. Last year they had the perfect player at every position. May have been best team in last 10 years or more.

They hoped Mahaney was going to have a Cam Spencer-like impact and missed on that.

PG - Tristan Newton, Tough, veteran PG 1st Team All-American
SG - Cam Spencer, elite shooter, gamer 1st in Nation in KenPom Offensive Rating
SF - Stephen Castle, elite athlete, excellent all-around player, became good scorer, Lottery Pick
PF - Alex Karaban, shooter, stretch 4, he & Spencer deadly from 3
C - Donovan Clingan, shot-blocker, unstoppable in post, Lottery Pick
