WNBA Union going after christine brennan

Nobody cares what you think ladies….”condemnation”… lol

The WNBA as a whole is completely lost. They are in DIRE NEED of an outside PR firm. They shoot themselves in the foot at every single turn.

Unprecedented attendance and TV ratings. Then immediately call the very same people racist and misogynistic.

Demand equal treatment from media, salary, travel media coverage then immediately denounce a member of the media for asking the very tough questions they thought they wanted.

The majority of the players in the league are completely delusional and expect to be given things just because. They forget without massive NBA handouts every year this league would have folded a long time ago.

I don't follow the WNBA at all, but my impression has been along the lines here. How are they fumbling the bag of fan interest they've longed for so badly to be largely unlikable? Not including Clark in the Olympics was an unfathomably stupid marketing decision to boot.

You have star players that no one ever saw play till clark joined the nba and now the place is packed and they dont care about anyone but clark. You have a white, straight woman in a largely black league with many gay women.

Clark gets the opposite of the jordan whisle. Mostly fouled by black player. Is that cause she is white, straight. Is it jealosy. Is it welcome to the big leagues? They seen like nasty fouls.

The number of big women hoops personalities who have acted like aholes is just about all of them, geno on down.

If clark went away, so do the fans. Attendance up 48% cause of her. I get why tarausi and others are jealose and pissed. But so many publicly acting like spoiled, nasty brats is hard to fathom

And clark is for real. She is imo the best passer on a fast break or a cut. Man or woman. Sees where the ball has to go like a great qb. I watched the wnba a few times but only when she was playing.

The situation is unprecedented. Complicated. Disappointing. There used to be a fake newspaper on sale once in a while in nyc in the 80s. One sardonic headline was something like, "atomic bomb explodes in US. Michael jackson and billions of others die". And that is the wnba today.

SMH. Par for the course. The players and former players are so jealous of everything Caitlin Clark its disgusting. Instead of embracing the huge increase in attention she has garnered for women's basketball, they resent it - and her.

I watched the replay of the eye poke (attached below) and it looks completely intentional to me. To accuse a reporter who simply asked about it of being racist, homophobic and misogynistic is completely uncalled for.

How exactly is Diana Tarausi jealous and pissed about Clark?
Because players like Tarausi were excellent for a long time who put in a lot of effort to make the WNBA a better mainstream product but despite their efforts it never happened.

Then they watch after all those years a rookie come in and take over the headlines and single handedly change the attendance and coverage and it is reason enough to make the old timers and sub par players jealous. Not that I agree with their feelings

And what exactly do you base that on, other than your imagination?

She has said some dumb things. Gino too. Surprised at both.
Actually, I don't think either have.

It's amazing to me how the Caitlin Clark zealots have a meltdown over any statement that isn't a deification of her.

I couldn't care less about Clark or Taurasi, and the impression I was left with was pettiness, which does not rank high on the likability spectrum. I actually didn't have much of a positive impression on Clark prior to the wnba shenanigans considering she had plenty of moments seemingly in the style of her own dad yelling onto the court to tell her to shut up.

I mentioned them both (Geno and DT) by name cause I like and respect both and them making the statements surprised me. I assume what disappointed me is on the web but I am sure not going to take the time to find it. Its almost 10M, time for my CC deification prayers.

I only have a casual interest in the WNBA but Taurasi most definitely make snide comments about Clark at the beginning of the season and then eventually retracted them once Clark proved her mettle.

The eye poke that Fishjam posted was 100% intentional and she should have been suspended.

Clark has an acerbic personality and that does turn off opponents, especially as she is the new girl on campus. I think that more than the fact that she is white has been an issue. There are many other high quality white girls who have played in the league that haven't gone through what Clark has this season.

What Tarausi said was that she expected to need time to adjust to playing at the WNBA level, but that she was "a great player" and she would figure it out.

Somehow calling Clark a great player wasn't sufficient for her cult following. It's weird.

If Danny Hurley says about Kadary Richmond, well, how many NCs has he won, I would put DH in that same class as Geno or DT in this discussion. But he would never say that, cause while true, it is snarky and meaningless.

It is like Clark asking if Taurasi scored as many points as she did.

And besides Clarks real accomplishments, she did it under a bigger microscope than any I can remember. I tuned in to show myself she cant be all that. But she was. Then she was, and she was again. Under a magnitude of social media exposure that I am not sure if any college athlete has ever been exposed to.

I don’t watch much WNBA, but Sabrina Ionescu is a similar type player (PG, multi tool, great shooter) and also white and straight.

Clarks records, accompaniments and range are generational. She reminds of Larry Bird who was also a bit of a trash talker. Bottom line she is great for a game that had been struggling.

Banning a writer by the union is stupid and petty.

Yeah, again not sure what you're working yourself up over. Both Taurasi and Auriemna have been nothing but complementary regarding Clark.

(Lol, and I'm pretty sure Taurasi isn't the person you want to ask "have you scored more points than me?" since she is the WNBA all-time point scorer by a wide margin.)

Union membership can boycot speaking to all media i suppose but have no power in stripping a press badge from a working media member

My point is, one of them, or maybe both asked if CC won three NCs. And frankly, I have had enough of his one lol. I am sure Taurasi's college totals are not close to CC. And that is as meaningless as the NCs CC has won in terms of how good each player is.

I am not worked up. Lets go Mets.

Yeah, I'm not sure that actually happened. That's the point. They both spoken well of her.

I think it's fair to say Geno, and many people in and around the game underestimated how good CC would be in year 1.
He said it was disrespectful to the league that she was 3rd or 4th in betting odds for the MVP when the season started. She ended up 4th.

He wasn't wrong that it did seem very unlikely she would come in dominate the league. She needed time to adapt to the speed and physicality but she got there quicker than most reasonable doubters expected.

I think this article is what everyone is referring to about Tuarasi.

She stated that she would take Paige over Clark and that Clark would have a hard time adjusting. Not sure she said she was a great player or that she would figure it out. While I usually don’t care about women’s basketball, I believe Tuarasi was proven wrong.

Did you actually listen to the interview? I've linked it below. She literally called Caitlin Clark great, someone has to be a real Clark groupie to get your panties in a bunch over that.

I still stand by my statement that Tuarasi was wrong in her assessment of Clark’s ability. Not sure I think she hated on her but she did misread Clark’s ability to adapt.

I'm guessing you didn't actually follow the WNBA season. It took Clark a little bit of time to find her feet. But yeah hundred percent she's been amazing for the sport and is a uniquely talented player.

No I watched a lot of games this year because I wanted to see how she would do against more mature players. While Clark’s numbers were down early I felt it was more about her teammates getting used to her style of play. The good thing to me was that she did not get frustrated and made a commitment to working with her teammates to make them better. It was clear after the Olympic break that this was her team and she was going to drag them to the playoffs. I get it to you Taurasi is a UCONN god but she still can be wrong. By no means was she as hateful as some of the other naysayers but she clearly thought Clark was overhyped. Not really a big deal either way.

Yes, she could be wrong, but, nothing she said was either wrong or hateful.

In fact, Clark did struggle a bit when she first joined the league. Unlike you, I don't think that was everyone else's fault. I just think she was a kid trying to figure out the league. That's sad, she did and had a phenomenal rookie season.
