Newark, N.J. - The BIG EAST schedule has arrived a lot earlier than anyone could have anticipated six months ago. On December 11, it gets real for Seton Hall and St. John's as the two programs tip off league play against one another. This will be the ninth time that Seton Hall's first BIG EAST opponent is St. John's, and the Pirates are 5-3 in those games, including a thrilling 76-74 win at Prudential Center just two years ago.
This game also represents the earliest that Seton Hall has played a BIG EAST game since facing Villanova at the Meadowlands on Dec. 9, 1998.
Seton Hall has done a great job in keeping St. John's at bay in home games this millennium. The Pirates are 14-1 at home against the Johnnies since 2000.
The Pirates will need to keep good care of the basketball against a St. John's team's pressure that has generated 74 steals in just six games. That's 22 more steals than any other BIG EAST squad so far.
Friday's game will be nationally broadcast on CBS Sports Network, and the eloquent duo of Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin deliver the radio call on AM970 The Answer, simulcast on XM 380, the Pirate Sports Network and TuneIn.
