South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall Men's swimming and diving team claimed a dominant victory in its home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating Rider, 183-107, inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates claimed victory in every event across the swimming and diving portions of the meet.

Diving
The opening day of the season for Seton Hall men's diving was defined by the performance of freshman diver Nick Graham. In his Pirates debut, Graham claimed overall victory in the 1-meter board and 3-meter board with scores of 297.60 and 270.60, respectively.

Not far behind Graham was his teammate Trevor Post. Post opened his senior season by placing second in both diving events, scoring 182.67 in the 1-meter board and 261.75 in the 3-meter board. Both performances by post surpassed his point totals from last season's opener against Rider.

Swimming
Success for the Pirates came in twos today. Chris Jackson (Maywood, N.J.), Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.), Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) and Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, registering a 1:31.07 across the four swimmers. All four swimmers participated in the final relay of the meet and although split across two relay teams, both teams outraced Rider's A relay to finish 1-2.

Clil Halevi (Kafar Hadranim, Israel) and Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) proved to be a dominant duo in both the 500 and 1000 Freestyle today, finishing first and second, respectively, in both races. Halevi finished with a 4:43.92 in the 500 and a 9:36.83 in the 1000. Vizzard, the reigning BIG EAST Champion in 1650 Freestyle,
Junior Kevin Cary joined the pair party with dueling wins in the 100 Freestyle and 200 IM. Cary was dominant in the 100 Freestyle with a 46.21, putting him nearly one-and-a-half seconds clear of second place. He produced similar dominance in the 200 IM, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of second place with a time of 1:54.26.

2024 BIG EAST 100 Butterfly Champion Michael Klimaszewski continued his dominance in the event to start the year, clearing the 50 second and finishing with a 49.81. While not as dominant of a performance, Klimaszewski also won the 200 Fly by one-and-a-half seconds with a 1:53.69.

The most exciting race of the day, however, came from Ben Endersby. He opened his individual program with a dominant victory in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing over two second clear of second place with a 57.52. In the 200 Breaststroke, however, Endersby battled Billy Ruddy from Rider hard. Despite being behind for the majority of the race, he erased over a second gap to win the event by a quarter of a second.

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team claimed a dominant victory in its home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating Rider, 179-106, inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates claimed victory in all but one event, instead finishing second in the one-meter board.

Diving
Senior Nikki Pawar (Lawrenceville, N.J.) opened her 2024-2025 campaign in form, winning the 3-meter board and finishing second in the one-meter board. Her scores, 219.00 and 223.42 respectively, were over 20 points better than last season's opening meet against Rider. In the one-meter board, freshman Sarah Behrman (Kennesaw, Ga.) landed herself a third-place finish with a score of 205.80 in her Pirates debut.

Swimming
The afternoon began in familiar fashion for the Pirates with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Amelia Obszarny (Middletown, N.J.), Yosun Hacifazioglu (Istanbul, Turkey), Shun Qi Lim (Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia) and Lea Moeller (New Lennox, Ill) combined to go 1:49.29, nearly two-and-a-half seconds clear of the Broncs. Individually, this lineup would claim victory in five total events while the entire team held Rider winless.

Among those relay members, new addition Shun Qi Lim made her mark early in individual events. She claimed the 100 Butterfly in dominant fashion, securing victory by nearly three seconds with a 58.43. She completed the double by winning the 200 Butterfly by six seconds with a 2:12.81.

Outside of that quartet, plenty of familiar faces claimed victory throughout the meet. Senior Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) posted that fastest time of the day in both the 1000 and 500 Freestyles, producing a 10:15.22 and a 5:03.48 respectively. She will look to repeat her BIG EAST title in the 500 Freestyle later this season.

2023 BIG EAST Champion Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) came into the meet ready to fight for another BIG EAST title this season. She would go on to claim her first win of the season in the 200 Freestyle with a 1:52.55. Not long after that, she followed that win with another victory, this time in the 100 Freestyle with a 51.76.

There were a few notable surprises from the Pirates, however. The most notable of which was Naima Hazell (Castries, St. Lucia) win in the 50 Freestyle from the outer lanes with a time of 24.45.

Aguliar started the day three strokes behind a pair of individual leaders, but had two birdies, 10 pars and an eagle on the par-5, No. 9 hole, to fuel a 1-over-par, 71, in the final round. Her remarkable second-round performance enabled her tie Boston University's Christy Chen for the individual championship.

Aguilar is the first Seton Hall women's golfer to claim at least a share of a tournament's individual crown since Mia Kness won the William & Mary Intercollegiate on March 19, 2019.

Seton Hall had the second-best round in the field today, an 18-over-par, 298, which enabled it to jump over two teams to win the team title by just one stroke over Boston University. For the tournament, The Hall was 41-over-par with a 303-298-601. The Pirates' lone BIG EAST competition, St. John's, finished fifth, 10 strokes off the lead.

Pucci Leads Pirates In Gritty 1-0 Win Over Providence

South Orange, N.J. — Chiara Pucci's first half goal and a staunch defensive effort in the second half propelled the Seton Hall women's soccer team's gritty 1-0 win over Providence on Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.

The Pirates (4-6-3, 1-1-2 BIG EAST) and their goal keeping tandem made up of Anna Prawer (London, England) and Avery Strohecker (South Riding, Va.) combined to shutout the Friars as the defense posted its fifth clean sheet of the season and its second in conference play. With five points in the BIG EAST standings, Seton Hall is in a four-way tie for fourth place.

How It Happened

Seton Hall came out as the aggressor on both sides of the field in the first 45 minutes and the statistics painted that picture as well. The Pirates put up seven shots and held Providence to just three shot attempts, the first of which came 16 minutes into the game and the two others came in the final two minutes of the half.

WIth five minutes to go before halftime, the Pirates drew a corner kick that was taken by Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.). Tavana's kick found Pucci in the box but her header attempt was blocked. The ball was played back and went off of a Providence player for a Seton Hall throw-in. The throw-in went to Pucci who sent a high-arching kick from 30 yards out back into 16-yard box. The ball took a favorable bounce and went over the outstretched hands of the Providence keeper, who was off her line, and crossed the line for a Seton Hall goal.

The second half saw the Pirates get off the first two shots, first by Megan Twomey (Oakland, N.J.) followed by Olivia Beauvois (Windsor, Conn.). Seton Hall would play stingy defense for the final 45 minutes, led by Strohecker in goal and the back line made up of Pucci, Rachel Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.), Gia Milano (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and Kyle Ray (Hampden, Mass.). The Pirates' four defenders played the full 90 minutes and Strohecker stopped a career-high seven shots.

Inside The Box Score
  • Seton Hall finished with an 13-12 edge in shots but Providence had a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.
  • Pucci has scored three goals this season and is now up to nine career points (three goals, three assists).

  • Seton Hall has posted at least five BIG EAST points in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2010 and 2011.
  • Twomey made her first start of the season at the head of The Hall's offensive attack.

  • Tavana played and started in her 70th career match, making her 10th in school history in career starts.
  • Tavana tied for the game-high with four shots and she played the full 90 minutes along with fellow midfielder Phoebe Hampson (Cheshire, England).
