Harris campaign making a mistake?

Ads about Kamala happy and proud of Bidenomics during Giant Eagle game are super effective. Of course they end the commercial with her laughing. Black voters getting strong messaging. Another observation this weekend was the back drop of both candidates rallies. Behind Kamala there was 100% females at her rally, there might had been a transsexual in the crowd but no men. Behind Trump was 85% males, construction guys, police, blue collar workers.
Big gender separation.

Jets fire Saleh!

Haason Reddick finally ends months-long holdout with Jets

PITTSBURGH — When the Jets return to work in New Jersey on Monday they will have a new teammate waiting for them.

Edge rusher Haason Reddick is ending his holdout, his agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed, and will report to work on Monday.

The Jets traded for Reddick in March but he has stayed away until now, hoping to get a new contract. The two sides agreed to a reworked contract and the Jets will be waiving some of the nearly $12 million in fines he accrued during his holdout.

Rosenhaus said they will continue to pursue a long-term contract with the Jets.

Reddick, 30, gives the Jets defense an instant boost. Reddick has had double-digit sacks in each of the last four seasons for the Cardinals, Panthers and Eagles.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Eagles in late March in exchange for a 2026 conditional third-round pick.

Reddick showed up for his physical and a virtual press conference on April 1 and then the Jets did not see him again.

He skipped the spring program and all of training camp, racking up daily fines. He requested a trade in August but the Jets immediately said they would not trade him.

The holdout stretched into the season and Reddick missed the first seven games, including Sunday night’s game with the Steelers. Reddick lost $800,000 a week in game checks for every game he missed.

Teams cannot waive mandatory fines, so it will be interesting to see the details in the reworked contract of how Reddick is recouping some of these fines.

Reddick was fired by his agency, CAA, almost two weeks ago. He hired Rosenhaus last week and the well-known agent met with Jets general manager Joe Douglas before last Monday’s loss to the Bills.

The Jets gave Reddick and Rosenhaus permission to find a trade last week, but that was seen as a move by the Jets to show Reddick there was no trade market. They did not intend to trade him.

The two sides continued talking and Jets owner Woody Johnson also got involved in the talks. They came close to an agreement on Friday and finalized things Sunday morning.

This is the latest development in an eventful few weeks for the Jets.

They fired coach Robert Saleh two weeks ago after a loss to the Vikings in London. Then, they traded for wide receiver Davante Adams last week after the loss to the Bills, reuniting him with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets came to Pittsburgh trying to snap a three-game losing skid on Sunday night. Now, they also know they have some reinforcements for their defense going forward with Reddick in the fold.

Personally, I think the Kadary's insistence on minutes trope is misleading. That completely flies in the face of Sha's earn your playing time mantra.

Now, do I believe KR made it known he might not be thrilled with the arrival of certain players? Sure, I can see that. But I have a hard time believing that someone who often behaves in a my way or the highway fashion was going to let one of his players dictate roster moves.

I suspect some of the calculus was incoming players saying, where are my minutes if that guy is still here.
But that makes no sense. Why even consider coming to SHU at all then? It isn’t like it wasn’t known Richmond and Dawes were coming back to the same team they were on the year before.

Plus, plenty of kids go to a team where the talent is rich and the starting players return.

Pick your 2024/25 SHU Starting Lineup

I was going to say, it definitely matters to the kids who starts, and probably who finishes, and I think coaches emphasize the latter more than the former. Whether a player buys in, who knows.

With a true 8 man rotation I don’t see any issue. With 10 it can become trickier with these kids, because they all have different goals, egos and expectations. I once had a kid major assistant tell me that I would be shocked at how many of his kids thought they were pros - NBA or at worst that after a stint in the developmental league or top overseas league - despite obvious objective evidence indicating otherwise.
Imo if this team as it is seen today has 10 kids playing 15 mpg it can work. If after a bunch of games it is clear we have 2 stars, then it gets more difficult

Pick your 2024/25 SHU Starting Lineup

I agree with this. It is possible that Sha may start Middleton over Coleman initially. I guess it depends on what message he wants to send. All of these players will see the floor. I can see Jenkins being Mr. Reliable as the season moves along. Hopefully, there will be enough firepower this season to prevent those several minute scoring droughts.

OT: Tony Bennett Retiring

I understand that college hoops and sports is a mess, but I am getting a little tired of hearing these coaches whining about it, when in the past the typical coach:

Made promises to recruits that often were not kept and this is at every level of college sports

Held the sit out year over the players' head to prevent transfer, even in instances of burying the player on the roster

Made tons of offers to players, but many when they tried to accept were told they could not.

Broke contracts and commitments to players by leaving for new jobs the moment a better one became available

Now, the players have some control and the coaches whine that it is unworkable.

Tony Bennett supposedly signed a 2 year extension in late August. What changed to retire now?

NCAA created situation we are in by not adapting leading to lawsuits. The coaches were all too happy to let that happen as long as they were happy with the set up.

All of this. Like Marlo Stanfield said, you want it your way but it's the other way. They could've gotten ahead of this but now it's completely over the top

Basketball isn’t a skills contest though. It’s about team play; the sum of its parts.

If Kadary’s individual stats get better from 2-3 players, I’d rather have that. (That includes season minutes played at PG and defense).

Asking what you need out of certain players to win is all that should matter. There’s only one basketball to go around.

I think what some maybe bitter about is that Sha couldn’t convince a better backup PG to come due to Kadary’s insistence on PT.

Whatever. I think we have a good chance to be better than last year. But who knows.
