*Press Release From Icons of the Game*

UNIONDALE, NY –
College basketball's newest event has a television partner that is nothing short of iconic.

Icons of the Game – dedicated to the coaching pioneers who broke barriers and paved the way for today's coaches – will host its inaugural doubleheader event at Nassau Coliseum on Wednesday, November 13. Both games of the twinbill – where UMass meets Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. and Seton Hall takes on Hofstra at 8:30 p.m. – will air live on MSG Sportsnet and MSG+ in Gotham Sports App, the MSG Networks and YES Network collaborative direct-to-consumer and authenticated streaming service.

Popular NCAA basketball on-air reporter for entities like Turner Sports and Big Ten Network Andy Katz will deliver the play-by-play, with New York and Westchester Knicks analyst Tykera Carter breaking down strategies and highlighting the event's storylines. Between-game coverage will be anchored by MSG Networks' Westchester Knicks play-by-play caller David Resnick, who will deliver exclusive interviews with many of the Icons on-hand at Nassau Coliseum.

"We are delighted to partner with MSG Networks to bring this powerful celebration of iconic coaches and their legacies to its viewers. We are deeply grateful for MSG Networks' partnership and commitment to elevating the message and impact of Icons of the Game in what should be a thrilling early season college basketball event," said Jason Tilton, Executive Director of 44 Group.

The first-ever Icons event will pay tribute to several college and professional coaching legends who achieved significantly, both on and on the court. The 2024 honorees include John McLendon, Clarence "Big House" Gaines, John Chaney, John Thompson II, and more.

All four participating programs are led by head coaches – Shaheen Holloway of Seton Hall, Speedy Claxton of Hofstra, Frank Martin of UMass, and Talvin Hester of Louisiana Tech – who have established themselves as exemplary leaders on and off court, making positive impacts on their respective communities.

Icons of the Game are brought to you by The 44 Group and joined by coaching legend, Tubby Smith, supporting the event. Set to become a major annual college basketball happening, some of the nation's top men's and women's program will participate in 2025.

Fiasco

Sanders is averaging 19 ppg, shooting 47% from 3 in 36 mpg.Think he made the right move?If he keeps this up we have every right to coitize Sha's management of him.Maybe we'll take him back next year for $1M+!!
Sanders possesses a skill this team badly needs in shooting. Unfortunately, he doesn't posses the only skill that Sha truly values and that is defensive acumen.

Expectations

This is not a good team at this point. It doesn't mean it doesn't become one but that seems a long way off.

I've said I believe we have the potential to be very good and I still feel that way despite two poor performances so far. Lots of good things need to happen to get that point. So far none are really showing themselves.

Middleton and Dual are a combined 3-16 in two games with seven total points. Between them and Coleman, at least two will need to take a huge stride for us to be successful. Jenkins, Toumi and Aligbe are showing they have the ability to pull their weight (albeit against weaker comp) and Addae-Wusu has to be solid as well.

At least one of the three centers is going to have to step up and be productive on a regular basis -- or the three of them are going to have to cobble together 40 minutes.

So far we've been decent defensively and look as if we haven't worked on offense at all. No shooters and no post players are a bad combination.

We're also already showing that our depth may be a fallacy. Aligbe and Addae-Wusu logged over 30 minutes today with Jenkins and Coleman at 28 and 27 respectively. Sha can't play his desired style if those last few players in the rotation can't hang with the opponent.

We need to start coming together quickly. Hofstra will be a test and Charleston looms (VCU rolled over BC on a neutral floor last night).

Oh ok. I guess we are going to question Shaheen's abilities now. Question for you:

What's more likely?

A. The team underperformed today because of bad coaching, or

B. This isn't a very talented team and it's going to take the coaching staff time to turn them into something?

I have to be honest, I don't see a great big east team on paper, or a very good one for that matter. We are going to need more than a few months of summer practices to get this team of transfers and mid major level guys to gel into something.

This isn't Sha's fault. This is what our NIL budget affords us.
I agree with you until the last 2 sentences unless you’re telling me you know Fordham has a bigger NIL budget. We should beat them on talent alone otherwise we should buy their players. It’s not about taking guys to develop for next year they could all be gone. It’s about winning now.

He’s had 4 months with these guys… looks like he’s putting 5 guys on the court who never played basketball

Expectations

We can't sugarcoat the loss. It was bad and unexpected. The season is off to a shaky start. I thought the defense was very good against St. Peter's and decent vs Fordham, but not good enough. No real defensive bull in the paint nor on the boards as of yet. The young guys have been OK so far.

The offense is bad and the free throw shooting very disappointing. It will be a long season if guys can't make free throws at crunch time. At this point it's hard to say who the floor general will be. Several candidates on the roster and time will tell. Sha has to give the keys to someone, or we may see more of the same. Personally, I'd use Jenkins until he proves he can't. I believe Dual might be better suited for the 2 at least in the short term. So, Coleman starts and Dual the backup 2G. Harmon would be the backup PG. Wusu's strength is off the ball and not an initiator in my opinion. Middleton should be a focal point off the bench. Right now, he's a catch and shoot weapon. We need to see what Okorafor can add to the equation. Prince/Toumi at the 4 along side Okorafor would lend balance and give the team much needed length on the court. Also, Sha needs to have some confidence in Gus down the stretch.

Finally, Sha loves a team that is peaking at the end of the season. That's a good thing. However, I think he gets caught up at times in winning the phycological battles with his players early in the season. Losing these OOC games or experimenting too much can cost big. Now there is a true sense of urgency. Can't slip up again in the non-conference. He has an extremely tough job of getting the team to mesh with all the new players. The season is not over. Today lowered our expectations without question. Long way to go.

Brutal quite frankly

Reverse angle here...silly that defender at half court jumps past shu kid...but again basketball always need to know score, time, situation. If he speed dribbles to the left corner, time runs out
This might top your insanely dumb posts. He literally crosses half court with 13 seconds left, you think time was going to run out by going to the left corner? Did everyone have cement in their shoes? It kills a few more seconds but no way does he go to the corner and kills 13 seconds.

No question the team will get better, as this performance was pretty bad. Feels like an embarrassing loss, but frankly this is where our peers expected us to be anyway.

Sha will whip this group into shape. Expectations should be tempered though.

Brutal quite frankly

Never understand how team is clueless to the shot clock.
